“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
Over the years I’ve met several successful business owners. Unfortunately, I’ve met many more unsuccessful ones! Comparing and contrasting the two is quite simple. Those that experience success think of their company as an outlet for their creativity – whether it be design, accountancy, consultancy or something as systematic as project management. Creativity isn’t just about drawing pretty pictures – it’s about unleashing the thing that you do best.
When you discover what makes you come alive, don’t push it aside and categorize it into a hobby. Don’t ignore it. Don’t repress it and try to learn how to do something other people think you should do! Find what makes your heart sing and then investigate, analyse, and become tenacious about how you can turn your heart song into your profession.
If you do what you love, all the success and money will come easily while you enjoy the journey. If you do what will make you money, you’ll find the journey frustrating and the destination a HUGE let-down.
