Job Title: Surveyor
Department: Party Wall & Neighbourly Matters
Location: London
Hours: 9:30am to 5:30pm, with flexible working

The Department
The Party Wall & Neighbourly Matters department is one of the largest specialist teams in the country, comprising 13 surveyors across London and Manchester. The team works on high-profile residential and commercial developments, advising clients on their responsibilities under the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 and other neighbourly matters.
The role:
The Surveyor will assist with:
- Advising clients on the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 and other neighbourly matters.
- Preparing and serving Party Wall Notices and drafting and negotiating Party Wall Awards.
- Inspecting neighbouring properties, preparing Schedules of Condition, and assessing damage caused by development works.
- Reviewing site boundaries, title documents, and third-party agreements, including easements and access licenses.
This role suits a hardworking, confident professional with an interest in property or construction, eager to develop expertise in this specialist field.
Duties include:
Party Wall Services :
- Review drawings, identify notifiable works, and issue Party Wall Notices.
- Draft and negotiate Party Wall Awards.
- Prepare and update Schedules of Adjoining Owners.
- Inspect properties to prepare and review Schedules of Condition.
Neighbourly Matters :
- Research ownership details and prepare reports.
- Negotiate access licenses and agreements (e.g., crane and scaffold licenses).
- Advise clients on boundary issues, easements, and rights of access.
Technical Support :
- Create and amend AutoCAD drawings.
- Conduct boundary reviews and plot accurate site boundaries.
- Maintain and update project tracker documents throughout project lifecycles.
Required attributes:
Technical Skills :
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel (advanced), Outlook, and Word.
- Ability to read construction drawings and understand building methods.
Personal Qualities :
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail, analytical mindset, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and handle high-pressure deadlines.
Knowledge :
- Understanding of the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 and property law basics (easements, access rights, etc.).
- Awareness of building pathology and construction defect identification.
