VentureFriends is a venture capital fund with offices in London, Barcelona, Warsaw & Athens. We back ambitious early-stage founders at Pre-Seed & Seed across Europe & UAE, with a sector-agnostic approach as long as there is a significant software element to the startup business model.

We launched VentureFriends in 2016 and through three funds totalling €170M, we have invested in more than 60 startups across Europe, UAE & LatAm. Some of our success stories include Blueground, Instashop, Huspy, Carmoola, Plum, Flexcar, Harbor Lab & Embat.

As an associate in the VF team, you’ll have the opportunity to engage with, learn from and support top people in the European tech ecosystem. Part of a nine person investment team and working closely with Alistair & George in the London office, you’ll have direct exposure and influence in the investment decision making process at VentureFriends.

Role & Responsibilities

Deal Sourcing & Evaluation

• Continuously identify compelling start-ups that align with our investment strategy
• Cultivate your network in the UK startup ecosystem to identify great founders and partners early in their startup journey
• Analyse inbound dealflow and be able to rapidly gain an understanding of new and emerging models

Transactions

• Research and compile investment memos for presentation to the investment committee
• Support due diligence workstreams on investment opportunities
• Liaise with solicitors and founders to negotiate and align on legal docs

Portfolio Support

• Proactively identify opportunities to connect our founders with relevant investors, customers and talent
• Track portfolio updates & KPIs and present conclusions to the wider team

Fund Support

• Identify opportunities to improve our internal processes and leverage new technology
• Represent the fund at events & conferences to grow our brand
• Support the team on workflows that fall outside of deal sourcing and portfolio support

Requirements

The VF team come from a wide range of backgrounds, from exited founders and operators to engineering and finance. As such, there isn’t an ideal background to work here, but we look for people with an entrepreneurial mindset and who are energised by meeting and working with founders and operators across the startup ecosystem.

Requirements

• Entrepreneurial mindset with a keen interest in startups and technology, displayed through deep knowledge of the ecosystem and with some experience working at another VC fund, startup or directly interacting with founders on a regular basis.
• A track record of personal, academic or professional achievements and a clear drive to learn and develop.
• Comfortable with numerical analyses and making decisions based on incomplete data
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Nice-to-Have

We wouldn’t expect any candidate to tick all of these boxes, but they are skills/qualities that we value.

• Fluency in another European language (e.g. French, Nordics, German)
• Experience as a founder or in an operational role at a venture-backed startup
• Experience investing in early-stage startups, including as an angel investor
