  • Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing space startup and play a key role in the development of cutting-edge satellite technology. The NewOrbit graduate positions are designed to nurture the next generation of space engineers, offering you the chance to develop your skills, build your network, and contribute to groundbreaking projects that will shape the future of space exploration.

As a NewOrbit Electronics Engineer, you’ll be part of a dynamic and innovative team working on advanced electronic systems for our pioneering air-breathing electric propulsion technology.

NewOrbit is a space startup with a mission to engineer the lowest orbiting satellites on Earth.

We have developed an air-breathing propulsion system that enables operations at Ultra-Low Earth Orbits (ULEO). This allows our satellites to fly at ~200km in altitude, 3x lower than conventional Low Earth Orbit (LEO).

At this ultra low altitude, it will be possible to provide 9-10x better image quality for Earth observation purposes, improved direct-to-phone internet capacity, among other benefits. All in a self-cleaning and sustainable orbit, where space debris is mitigated naturally, with passive de-orbits occurring within ~1 month.

In early 2024 we raised our Series A round backed by prominent VCs and angel investors in US and Europe. So if you are a motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and you’re excited about contributing to the success of a groundbreaking Series A space startup, we’d love for you to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Electronics Systems Design: Assist in the design and development of electronic components and systems for satellite applications, focusing on power distribution, signal integrity, and reliability.
  • Hands-On Work: Engage extensively in practical, hands-on tasks such as prototyping, assembling, and testing electronic hardware, gaining deep technical expertise through direct application.
  • Propulsion System Integration: Support the integration of electronic systems with our air-breathing propulsion technology, ensuring compatibility and optimal performance.
  • Testing and Validation: Collaborate on the testing and validation of electronic systems, analyzing performance data to ensure compliance with mission requirements.
  • Skill Development: Enhance your technical and professional skills through hands-on experience, mentoring, and training sessions.

Fundamental Requirements

  • Educational Background: Top grades with a degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Electronics Engineering Background: Experience in university projects involving electronic systems, an interest in space engineering, and a desire to contribute to the future of satellite technology.
  • Hands-On Experience: Practical experience in circuit prototyping, lab work, and testing is essential.

Good to have (not not essential)

  • Familiarity with power electronics design, including DC-DC converters, power distribution systems, and inverter technologies.
  • Knowledge of analog and digital circuit design principles, including signal processing and filtering techniques.
  • Experience with tools like LTSpice, TINA-TI, PLECS, or MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Understanding of control theory and its application in closed-loop systems for converters and inverters.
  • Experience in PCB design and layout optimization for high-reliability applications.
  • Knowledge of thermal management and design considerations for electronics in space environments.
  • Exposure to EMI/EMC compliance testing and mitigation strategies.
  • Hands-on experience in hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing or similar validation methodologies.

Why NewOrbit Space

  • Pioneering Space Technology: Join NewOrbit and contribute to the development and launch of groundbreaking technology that will redefine satellite operations in ultra-low Earth orbits
  • Impact and Ownership: Experience a rare level of involvement in the full lifecycle of satellite technology development, with opportunities to influence mission-critical systems
  • Equity and Competitive Salary: NewOrbit offers competitive salaries and equity, rewarding dedication and hard work with a tangible stake in the company’s success

About NewOrbit Space

NewOrbit Space is a Series A funded company that develops satellites for Ultra Low Earth Orbits (<200km). As we operate 3-4 times lower than conventional satellites we see the world better and building satellites at a fraction of the cost of the existing satellites.
