We currently have a vacancy for a Technical Director to lead our Major Projects & National Clients Teams. This role is a national role and can be based from any of our depots across England and Wales but will require frequent travel.

The Technical Director is our most senior temporary traffic management expert and leads our Major Projects & National Clients (MP&NC) design team, our Technical Centre of Excellence (TCoE) and wider design community. The Technical Director will ensure Core Highways is the leading TTM contractor in the sector based on a reputation of technical excellence and ability to support our clients deliver their major projects safely and efficiently. Reporting to the Managing Director (MP&NC) will bring wider influence and expertise across the team acting as a key member of the MP&NC Leadership Team.

Responsibilities:

•Lead the Core Highways Technical Centre of Excellence (TCoE) to drive innovation and our digital strategy to secure work and beat the competition aligned to our Create Advantage strategic pillar

•Establish and manage strategic partnerships with suppliers that help us secure and profitably deliver the MP&NC portfolio.

•Develop technical solutions, programmes and resource schedules for major project tenders working collaboratively with our estimators, project managers and members of our Work Winning Centre of Excellence.

•Engage with clients (potential and current) to develop temporary traffic management solutions to their complex and major projects. These solutions will be industry leading and help Core Highways and our clients win work, reduce programmes, cost and carbon, and enhance safety and customer care.

•Be an active leader within the Win Work community and contribute to best practice and improving standards.

•Lead the relationship with key MP&NC clients, such as Tier 1 Contractors, National Highways and Rail customers. Develop senior level relationships to drive a partnership approach and increase the amount of revenue with these clients. Ensure successful relationships with key customers are developed and maintained throughout MP&NC and in Region as appropriate.

•Ensure all designs within the MP&NC portfolio are compliant to all appropriate legislation, standards and codes of practice.

•Lead, identify, communicate and embed emerging industry and client standards, best practice and innovation across our business.

•Act as our lead representative on cross-industry working groups and associations.

•Provide engineering advice to our key clients.

•Maintain and improve our design programme and workload tracking and forecasting system.

•Maintain and improve the design governance processes across our business.

•Ensure that the design community are working with central functions delivering synergy and efficiency.

•Align the organisation to deliver the outcomes required from our Social Value and Net Zero Strategies.

•Develop annual and quarterly budgets and forecasts for the design team, taking personal ownership of the outcomes and driving performance.

Experience required:

•Extensive experience of highways services and specially the temporary traffic management sector and associated roadworks activities.

•Extensive knowledge of legislation, standards, guidance and best practice in the temporary traffic management sector.

•Leadership experience at a senior management level in a large and complex organisation.

•Understanding and experience of common highway construction and associated assets in a major projects setting.

•Established network and strong relationships with senior technical experts across the UK highway sector including national and local government and Tier 1 contractors.

•Demonstratable track record of business and sales revenue and growth driven through technical expertise.

•Proven track record of delivering complex contracts and frameworks.

•Graduate, ideally in engineering or related field.

•IHE TTME Diploma and Ieng/EngTech preferred.

•Proactive and people centric leadership skills with a proven ability to engage and inspire technical and engineering

•Ability to drive strategy forward into action, adapting approach where necessary to achieve required outcomes.

•A personal drive for growth and improvement and a role model to others

•Able to focus and prioritise with competing demands, delegating to others and highlighting risk and potential mitigations where appropriate.

•Identifies and analyses areas for business improvement and growth, sharing best practice from across the industry.
