THE ROLE

As the UK continues to decarbonise the electricity, heat and transportation sectors, the demand for renewable electricity will continue to increase. Horizon Power & Energy is supporting this transition away from fossil fuels by originating and developing large scale solar PV projects. If you are passionate about climate change and renewable energy, this may be your opportunity to join a small team focussed upon the identification and development of large solar farms, solar PV car ports and commercial solar PV roofs.

The successful applicant will be part of a small team undertaking the development and delivery of large solar PV projects, and will have personal responsibility for the following activities;

a) Familiarisation with project specifications, terms and conditions

b) Production of MS Project schedules

c) Identifying, securing and mobilising required project resources

d) Coordinating project team members and suppliers to deliver outcomes within programme

e) Resolving programme or technical issues as they arise

f) Periodic internal and external progress reporting

g) Attending / chairing Client and supplier progress meetings and reviews

h) Monitoring quality and managing works inspections, snagging and remediation

i) Monitoring site health, safety and environmental management arrangements

j) Monitoring and managing contract variations

k) Supporting business development and new sales opportunities

l) Maintain overview of combined project program

LOCATION

Your formal place of work will be Southampton Science Park, some home working may also be allowed, albeit subject to business needs. You will also be required to travel to some project locations throughout the UK, and occasionally spend some nights away. Regular bus services run to the Science Park from central Southampton. Your working hours will be 09:00 to 17:00. In addition to public holidays, will be entitled 25 paid days leave per annum, and this shall be taken through agreement with your manager.

THE CANDIDATE

Candidates should ideally possess the following skills and qualifications;

a) Have an interest in learning about sustainability, renewable energy and solar PV.

b) Degree or HND qualified in a mechanical or electrical engineering discipline

c) Experience of managing engineering or construction projects ranging from £250K to c£5M

d) Demonstrable knowledge of project management principles, tools and processes

e) Good communication skills and able to motivate and enthuse others around them

f) Ability to manage interfaces between clients, stakeholders and suppliers

g) A natural focus on detail and an ability to follow processes whilst solving problems

h) A good team worker, who is enthusiastic and highly motivated self starter.

i) Comfortable working without supervision and delivers against tight deadlines.

j) Pragmatic and flexible in the face of change or uncertainty

k) You should be highly computer literate and comfortable working with MS Project, MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Experience of managing solar PV, renewable energy or power projects would be a distinct advantage, as would a formal project management qualification.

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT

Successful applicants will be expected to complete on-the-job training. Specific training will be given in the following areas, and time will be set aside during the early stages of employment. You should also expect to make a limited number of day trips to view project installations.
