i2 Group, a Harris Computer company, are currently recruiting for a Junior Backend Developer, skilled in Java. This is a full-time, permanent, remote-working opportunity and there is a requirement to visit the i2 Office in Cambridge, UK as and when there is a business need to do so (circa 2 days per month).

We are seeking a motivated backed and talented Junior Java Developer with a strong foundation in Java, and Java enterprise libraries, to join one of our core development teams and help us enhance our i2 products and services, which are used by more than 2000 law enforcement, national security, military and major commercial organizations in 130 countries across the world.

Position & Responsibilities

In performing this role your core duties and responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Assisting in developing and maintaining efficient, reusable, and reliable server-side logic using Java and its enterprise libraries
  • Working closely with cross-functional teams, including UI/UX designers, frontend developers, and product managers, to ship new vertical features
  • Ensuring the technical feasibility of feature designs and optimize solutions for maximum speed and scalability
  • Implementing solutions capable of working with relational databases and text search engines
  • Conducting thorough testing (automated and manual) to identify, fix bugs, and performance issues
  • Staying up to date with the latest industry trends and technologies to ensure our applications are built using the best practices

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2:1 Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Demonstrable success and involvement in software design and implementation of production-ready backend solutions
  • Experience creating SPIs, APIs, and using patterns such as REST
  • Experience with testing frameworks and methodologies, ensuring the delivery of high-quality software
  • Familiarity with modern development tools and practices, such as Git, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization.

Desirable (But not essential)

  • Experience with text search engines like Elastic, Solr, and Lucene
  • Working with relational databases and writing efficient queries
  • Using Gradle for project automation and dependency management
  • Basic understanding of front-end technologies (e.g., JavaScript, TypeScript, and React) to facilitate smooth integration with backend services
