Job Summary

Totalis is seeking a highly motivated Trainee/Junior Quantity Surveyor to join our growing Fit-Out Division. This role is ideal for an ambitious individual with two years of post-graduate experience in quantity surveying, looking to develop their expertise in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The successful candidate will support the commercial team in managing project costs, procurement, valuations, and contract administration while ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and profitably.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the preparation and analysis of cost estimates and budgets for fit-out projects.
• Support in the procurement of subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring best value for money.
• Monitor project cost control and financial forecasting , ensuring alignment with budgetary constraints.
• Prepare and assess valuations, variations, and final accounts.
• Assist in the management of contracts , including reviewing terms, issuing instructions, and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
• Conduct site visits to measure and assess work progress, liaising with site teams and subcontractors.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation , including payment applications and cost reporting.
• Support in identifying and mitigating risks and disputes in line with company procedures.
• Work closely with the Senior QS/Commercial Manager to develop commercial strategies for project success.
• Stay up to date with industry regulations and best practices in quantity surveying and construction law.

Person Specification:

Qualifications & Experience:

• A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
• A minimum of two years post-graduate experience in quantity surveying, preferably within the fit-out or construction sector.
• Experience working on commercial, office, retail, or hospitality fit-out projects is advantageous.
• Knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts is desirable.

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong numerical and analytical skills , with attention to detail.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and quantity surveying software such as CostX, Bluebeam, or similar.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills , with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• A proactive and problem-solving mindset , eager to learn and take on new challenges.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and contract documents accurately.
• Full UK driving licence preferred, with willingness to travel to project sites as required.
