The Programme Manager is responsible the planning and execution of the centre-based Apprentice and Skills curriculum at Make UK. This includes delivery of a wide range of disciplines – both practical and theory-based to prepare learners for full employment in the Engineering/Manufacturing sector. The Technology Hub at Aston in Birmingham has some of the industry’s most talented and forward-thinking tutors. This key role will work closely with 2 peers: the Technical Manager and the Apprentice and Progress Manager. In partnership, the 3 interconnecting management roles are collectively responsible for one of the largest specialist engineering ITP’s. Key responsibilities
- Collaborate with Apprentice and Progress Manager and Technical Manager to create a best-in-class learning provision.
- To ensure that teaching practice is inspiring, modern and contextualized to the current and future engineering sector. To manage a team of tutors, organising workload, commercial course cover, discipline, welfare, absence, holiday cover etc.
- To structure and effectively timetable (on and off site) a range of qualifications and courses ranging from level 2 skills foundations to HNC and HND. Creativity in curriculum planning is essential- and the post-holder will have experience of a range of delivery models to include remote.
- Ensure that learning is well planned, that tutors have a range of material that balances criteria of Awarding Organization, Apprenticeship Standards, the personalization of learning and knowledge of job roles.
- Work closely with the Apprentice & Progress Manager to provide accurate apprentice learning insights that can be shared with employers.
- To create a motivational learning environment by providing stimulating and demanding subject delivery that allows learners’ education to be personalised.
- To ensure that teaching practice is inspiring, modern and contextualized to the current and future engineering sector. Ensure that the feedback that learners receive is on time, is sufficiently detailed and helps the learner to recognise how they can improve.
- To collaborate effectively with quality assurance processes and personnel to ensure an effective feedback loop.
- To ensure teaching and learning is Good or better and compliant teachers’ Standards, OFSTED, LSC, Awarding Body and the centre’s standards/criteria.
- Ensure that learning outcomes for the most vulnerable learners are in line or better than average outcomes for learners.
- To work with e Apprentice and Progress manager to structure and implement a range of learning interventions to ensure that learners have the ability to recover lost progress/work.
- To advocate, support and maintain learner disciplines in compliance with the Centre’s disciplinary codes and practices.
- To ensure the health and safety of learners and staff is paramount with the Centre’s health and safety policy.
- To undertake any other duties as may be reasonably requested within the limits of your capability
- To work diligently to maintain positive working environment for Make UK staff, learners and employers.
- To ensure that Apprenticeship Standards remain the focus of activity – particularly in relation to the development of skills, knowledge and behaviours whilst learners are in the hub.
- Liaise with Business Development Managers and the external delivery team to ensure the smooth communication of progress information across teams.
Technical knowledge and experience
- Time Served apprentice Experience of engineering disciplines
- Managerial experience- preferably from an engineering setting HND Level 5 or higher or equivalent.
- Teacher qualified (minimum level 4) or willingness to attain.
Business and industry knowledge
- Experience of apprenticeships
- Recent industrial experience combined with knowledge of current industry and best practice standards.
- Leadership and people development skills
- Experience managing an educational provision in the FE/HE/adult education sector
- Empathy with young people
- Ability to plan, deliver training and assess outcomes.
- The ability to influence and inspire colleagues and students.
- Problem solving skills
- Logical approach to problem solving.
- Creative and collaborative Future-looking Interpersonal effectiveness and communication skills
- Good presentational and communication skills, Literate and numerate.
- Ability to motivate and command learner respect.
