We are looking for a professional, with significant experience in the payments industry to join our Strategic Finance team. The typical background for the role-holder would be someone who has worked their way up to a role with oversight of payments within a large Government Department or corporate organisation and further progressed to work on payment-related projects. To reach this level of authority it is estimated that the individual would have needed at least five to ten years of experience.

Payment journeys include all of NS&I’s inbound payment methods namely Payment Initiation, manual bank transfer (CHAPS, Bacs, and Faster Payments), cheque and debit card; and all of NS&I’s outbound payment methods such as bank transfer (CHAPS, Bacs, and Faster Payments) and warrants (similar to cheques). In addition, there are internal payments to and from the Bank of England. Payments are critical to NS&I with Automated Bank Transfer Payments to Customers deemed an ‘Important Business Service’ under the FCA Operational Resilience regime.

Essential experience

  • Experience working in the payments industry for an organisation with high payment volumes covering a range of payment methods
  • Experience of working as part of a project team to deliver significant business change
  • Experience of analysing processes to identify gaps or areas for improvement
  • Experience of making recommendations and influencing people to deliver business goals
  • Experience of introducing cash management controls and overseeing cash reconciliations
  • Experience of communicating complex payment information to colleagues across the business

Essential skills

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex information and determine the business implications
  • Strong communication skills with ability to build effective relationships with key stakeholders and hold strategic suppliers to account where necessary.
