It is an exciting time for HM Land Registry (HMLR) as we continue a major transformation programme. HMLR’s ambition is to become the world’s leading land registry for speed, simplicity and an open approach to data.

We’re looking for a Lead Security Architect to join our Transformation and Technology Directorate to help us achieve this.

As a Lead Security Architect you will support the governance, assurance, and design of HM Land Registry’s (HMLR) Technical Architecture estate. You will keep up to date with advances affecting their technical domain and will be aware of, and take account of, cross-government Technical Architecture initiatives.

You have responsibility for the delivery of high-level designs and artefacts that describe HMLR Technical Architecture, and understand the relevant strategies that influence these and will contribute to wider activities that define future roadmaps.

This role is part of the Government and Digital Data Profession and may attract an additional pay supplement. The amount is the result of a capability assessment which will be determined during the application and interview process to assess your capability level.

Minimum starting total pay £ 63,100. The maximum total pay after two years in this role is £ 80,400.

Successful candidates are required to undergo a yearly capability assessment to determine the level of supplement in future years.

Main Duties:

  • work in teams to continuously improve the security of our platforms and services
  • advise and coach teams on cyber security practices
  • take a risk based and outcome driven approach to secure architecture
  • develop and communicate meaningful security policies
  • identify and promote best practices for multidisciplinary teams to deliver resilient, secure and scalable services
  • identify, own, and respond to security risks and issues as they arise
  • cultivate and maintain relationships with other security teams within GDS, Cabinet Office, NCSC and the rest of government
  • line manage other security architects

HMLR expect everyone to spend at least 60% of their working time in the office.

Occasional travel is necessary to HMLR business units, external supplier sites and other Government Departments.

Person specification

To meet the requirements of this role, you can take a top down view to identify the things we need to change and able to evaluate the impact of change on our IT estate, both current and future.

You will be able to demonstrate working very close to technology to deliver an architecture and show where complex problems have been solved, also taking ownership of problems with no obvious solution. Collaborating with multiple agile delivery teams to deliver the required outcome and using a broad range of technologies, tools and processes.

You have proven experience of designing for large projects and seeing those designs through to delivery. You take accountability for end-to-end solutions from initiation to initial delivery and its ongoing lifecycle in line with a strategy.

Leading and influencing diverse groups to get to agreement on a technical solution. Developing technical strategies and roadmaps. Structured, logical decomposition of problems using appropriate modelling techniques and languages.

In addition, you can evidence planning for decommissioning, maintainability and scalability and deliver compliance in line with security requirements, legal and legislative responsibilities. You proactively keep abreast of upcoming technologies and changes in the industry and are able to sell technical ideas and concepts in a simple way to diverse stakeholder groups, influencing at all levels including senior leaders.
