About the role

Work towards becoming a competent Mechanical Engineer.

Following successful UK security clearance, you will be working on nuclear defence projects as a Graduate Mechanical Engineer. You will be exposed to operations in all areas of the business to develop your skills, knowledge and behaviours within the engineering industry.

You will provide support to all areas of the engineering function, combining both theoretical knowledge with workplace applications. You will get involved in understanding problems in detail and developing solutions all under the guidance of your engineering mentor and our Early Careers Coordinator.

The work placements will typically consist of the following areas:

  • Project Engineering (allocated to work on a project for a project manager under the supervision and guidance of a Senior Engineer)

o Quality plans

o Method statements

o Risk assessments

o Project scheduling

o Purchase orders

o Procurement specifications

o Supply chain management

  • Engineering Design

o 3D model / space management

o Constructability review

o Design proposal drawings

o Desktop calculations to validate and underpin design (specific areas of expertise)

o FEA calculations to validate and underpin design (specific areas of expertise)

o General arrangement drawings

o Isometrics

o Learning from experience review

o Load test procedure

o Loading drawings

o Manufacturing drawings

o Mechanical basis of design

o Mechanical flow diagrams

o Mechanical handling diagrams

o Mechanical sequence diagrams

o Outline installation method statements

o P&IDs

o Parts schedules

o Piping hook up and tie in drawings

o Radiological considerations in design (basic understanding of shielding, dose etc)

o Room layout drawings

o Technology readiness assessment

o Valve and fitting schedules

o Add test / development rig trials / management

  • Site Placements

o Site surveys

o Test and commissioning

Who we 're looking for

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Similar disciplines will also be considered based on the modules covered, and predicted grades will also be taken into account.

They should be well-organised, capable of working to timescales, and able to demonstrate strong attention to detail. A competent user of MS Office, they must also be able to organise and prioritise their own work effectively.

A polite and friendly approach to work is essential, along with the ability to remain calm and professional at all times. Strong interpersonal skills, tact, and confidentiality are required, as well as reliability and punctuality. The candidate should have due regard for equal opportunities and diversity, ensuring fair and reasonable interactions with all stakeholders.
