About the job
This market-leading actuarial firm have a unique opportunity for 2 graduates to train as an actuarial consultant.
You’d still be working towards the IFoA exams, but unlike the actuarial trainee role, this opportunity is focused on being client-facing.
The business is based in Guernsey, with an impressive network of clients across the Channel Islands, UK, and Europe, making it an exciting place to kick-start your career.
As a trainee, you’d get the chance to apply your mathematical skills to the business world while working towards becoming a chartered actuary.
It can take anywhere from 2-10 years to complete all 13 actuarial exams, depending on your mathematical abilities, work ethic, and whether you graduate with exemptions.
This means that trainees need to be motivated to pursue a long-term career as an actuary. For the right person, it’s a brilliant career path with huge earning potential, but it does take time and dedication!
What would I be doing?
- 1 day per week is dedicated to paid study leave, during which you will revise for the IFoA exams. There are 13 exams in total, and some degrees provide exemptions.
- 4 days per week are spent learning on the job.
- This involves collating statistical reports and presentations for clients, so strong communication skills are necessary.
- Statistical analysis, problem-solving, and using Microsoft Excel are also essential parts of the role.
What’s in it for me?
- A comprehensive training package, which funds your actuarial exams, classroom-style learning, and paid study leave.
- A sponsored visa, which permits you to work in Guernsey.
- A £2,000 relocation package (if relevant) to support your relocation to Guernsey.
- The firm pays for 1 return flight to the UK each year, which you can expense at any time.
- A generous pensions and healthcare plan.
- 22.5 days’ annual leave + paid study leave once a week.
- A competitive base salary of £28-31k, depending on your experience and/ or exam exemptions.
What do we need from you?
- On track for a 2:1 or above in a STEM, Economics, or Finance degree, with an A or A* in Maths A Level
- Willing to relocate to and/ or work in Guernsey as of September 2025
- Solid communication skills
- An MSc in Actuarial Sciences is beneficial but not essential
Ultimately, you’ll need to be a relationship-driven individual, proficient with Microsoft Excel and motivated to pursue a career as an actuary.
