Purpose

The main purpose of the role is to own the technical health, SEO strategy, and site performance of www.alicecaroline.com | www.alicecarolinetrade.com to ensure our websites drive organic traffic and run smoothly.

Responsibilities:

1. SEO Strategy & Execution

  • Implement technical SEO fixes: site speed, schema markup.
  • Develop and implement the SEO strategy across the website to be agreed with Head of Sales & Marketing.
  • Conduct regular keyword research, competitor analysis, and content gap assessments using SEMRush, Ahrefs, or similar.
  • Liaise with Website Content Manager for optimizing on-page SEO (meta descriptions, title tags, image alt tags, header structures, internal linking).
  • Develop and manage SEO content calendars in collaboration with content creators.
  • Plan and implement schema markup and structured data for product listings and blog content.

2. Technical SEO & Site Health

  • Run regular technical SEO audits (SEMRush, Google Search Console) and fix issues (crawl errors, broken links, redirects).
  • Monitor and improve site speed (Google PageSpeed Insights, GTmetrix), implementing fixes like image optimization, lazy loading, minifying CSS/JS.
  • Ensure mobile-first indexing and mobile site performance.
  • Manage canonical tags, duplicate content issues, and URL structures.

3. Website Operations & Troubleshooting

  • Conduct routine site health checks: test functionality, page errors, site downtime.
  • Resolve technical issues: broken forms, slow-loading pages, product display errors.
  • Liaise with developers or third-party tech support for complex issues or upgrades.
  • Oversee plugin and software updates on WooCommerce.

4. Reporting & Analysis

  • Monitor SEO performance: keyword rankings, traffic, impressions, CTRs.
  • Track and report on organic performance KPIs monthly to Head of Sales & Marketing.
  • Use insights to make data-driven recommendations for improvements.

5. Collaboration

  • Work with the Website Content & UX Lead to ensure content and product pages are SEO-friendly.
  • Support developers with SEO insights on site architecture.
  • Collaborate on landing pages, ensuring SEO best practices are applied.

Person criteria: Qualifications and experience required:

Essential:

  • 3+ years’ experience in technical SEO for e-commerce websites.
  • Proven track record of delivering SEO growth for online stores (preferably with 1,000+ SKUs).
  • Advanced knowledge of SEO tools (SEMRush, Ahrefs, Google Search Console).
  • Familiarity with site speed optimization and tools (Google PageSpeed Insights, GTmetrix).
  • Comfortable with basic coding: HTML, CSS, JS.
  • Experience with schema markup and structured data.
  • Strong understanding of e-commerce platforms (WooCommerce).
  • Analytical and data-driven mindset.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues calmly and effectively.
  • Great attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Collaborative attitude: you’ll be the go-to person for anything SEO and technical, but need to work closely with content and design team.
  • Clear communicator: able to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable:

  • Experience working on websites with international SEO requirements.
  • Familiarity with security best practices (SSL, data protection).
  • Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and conversion tracking experience.
  • Worked within luxury goods, home decor, craft, or textile industries.

The shape of the role

  • 20 - 24 work hours per week, over two or three weekdays.
  • We operate a flexitime system in order to help staff achieve a good work-life balance.
  • The work schedule will be decided in negotiation with the post-holder and the Head of Sales & Marketing.
  • This role can be worked remotely, however a minimum of one day per month will need to be on site, which is at GL20 7PP. Alternatively the role could be 50/50 hybrid or all on-site.

Pay and Benefits

  • £16.41 per hour (£31,999) equivalent full-time salary per annum).
  • 25 days’ Annual Leave per annum plus UK bank holidays, pro rata to hours worked. There is a reasonable limit to how much leave that can be taken during school holidays.
