Author/Editor of Technical Learning Materials
Description of the Job
Working within our Development Department, this person will be responsible for developing and maintaining technology-based learning materials, initially addressing the subject area of electrical vehicles.
The successful candidate will join a team of developers who are creating learning content for our Electric Vehicle range of products. Our team includes engineers, technical authors and graphics designers.
Job Activities
1. Writing interactive, computer-based learning materials. These materials will initially be designed to address the needs of students on vehicle maintenance courses in colleges, schools and universities.
2. Authoring of both computer-based and paper-based learning materials that cover areas of engineering and vehicle technology.
3. Undertaking any research that may be required to ensure the accuracy of learning materials.
4. Proof-reading, technical editing and testing of both computer-based and paper-based learning materials.
5. Keeping up to date with the latest technological advances in the areas of electronics, automotive, mechatronics, control and telecommunications.
6. Using in-house editing software that has been designed to produce on-screen delivered learning materials.
7. Using Windows-based software packages such as Microsoft Office.
8. Troubleshooting problems reported by the Customer Support Department. Implementing and providing solutions.
9. Releasing new and updated products into production.
10. Liaising with other departments, including Customer Support, Purchasing, Sales, Marketing and Production.
Responsibilities
1. Managing your own workload under the supervision of the Product Director, and with the support of other members of the Development Team.
2. Ensuring that the job activities you undertake are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
3. Communicate all necessary information and specification to designated colleagues in a clear and concise way.
4. Ensuring that learning materials comply with design directives.
5. Ensuring that all duties are carried out in accordance with Health and Safety regulations as detailed in the Company Rulebook.
Person Description
The person carrying out this role must have:
1. A degree or equivalent in a field of engineering. Teaching experience a definite benefit.
2. Be able to communicate clearly through the written word.
3. Have experience of researching technical subjects.
4. An enthusiastic, flexible, self-motivated approach and a willingness to learn new skills.
5. Good interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate well with people at all levels.
6. The ability to plan their own activities and prioritise workload without close supervision.
7. An organised manner and the ability to work effectively, either individually or as part of a team.
8. A close attention to detail and an ability to meet deadlines, sometimes under pressure, while maintaining set standards.
9. The ability to follow formal procedures and work within a structured Quality Management System.
10. Be able to ensure the highest standards of confidentiality and conduct in all areas of activity.
