Job Title: Junior Graphic Designer
Salary: The starting salary is £34,808, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.
The salary is broken down as £31,880 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £34,108. Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

We are looking to recruit a Junior Graphic Designer to join our highly skilled, award winning, dynamic campaigns team. You’ll have the opportunity to deliver high quality, creative graphic design services and solutions that have the right impact and convey information clearly and accurately.
You will work closely with our internal communications colleagues and Local & Strategy team developing outputs to support our frontline officers. You will be able to design high-impact publications and assets, such as brochures, animations, digital ads, infographics, posters, leaflets, exhibition stands and banners in relation to major communications projects and campaigns that inform Londoners of our important police work.
You will be adaptable and flexible, willing to deal with any challenges that come your way. You will have an inquiring mind and be able to interpret and build on initial briefs. You will use your expertise and ideas to deliver impactful communication and content
Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and develop publications, digital and print assets for both internal and external audiences; including receiving and interpreting creative briefs, developing creative concepts for marketing campaigns and other communication projects.
- Maintain the brand toolkit and associated assets including designing templates and the creation of new assets where required. Ensuring the brand’s correct and consistent use.
- Visually simplify complex and highly detailed technical information for use in print or digital media.
- Manage multiple design projects from brief through to final presentation and liaise with the Graphic Designer and Campaigns managers to ensure deadlines are met and projects managed effectively enabling an efficient workflow.
- To carry out and assimilate the results of research and feedback into the needs and opinions of potential document users.
- To keep abreast of design trends and technology developments and develop own skills to ensure the Met’s content remains relevant and engaging.
- To ensure all design content is accessible, legally compliant and supports the Disability Discrimination Act.

Essential For The Role
Essential
- Proven knowledge of creative roles, designing for both print and digital media.
- Knowledge of design, layout, visual theory, and print processes, including the use of styles and colour theory.
- Knowledge of communication and marketing strategy.
- Knowledge of editing layout for different audiences in differing medias.
- Knowledge of traditional and digital graphic types and formats and their uses.
- Knowledge and experience of using Adobe’s Creative Cloud software, mainly InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and After Effects.
- Good typography skills
- Knowledge of template making within MS365.
- The ability to prioritise competing demands and work to strict deadlines.
- The ability to work on projects from conception to completion either independently, in a self-motivated manner, or as part of a team.
Desirable
- Video and audio editing experience.
- Knowledge of WCAG standards.
- Experience of both PC and Mac operating systems.
- A willingness to work as part of a busy team within a busy environment.
