We are excited to offer an opportunity to join our team as a Mechanical Design Engineer at our location in Lutterworth.
Role Overview:
As the Electrical Design Engineer, you will primarily work in an office setting, as part of a dynamic and innovative design team, creating electrical & pneumatic designs associated with automation machinery.
The successful candidate will also work alongside engineers and other professionals, to create and enhance the electrical schemes, which form a vital part of the products we produce, whilst contributing to the evolution of our processes.
The post holder shall design innovative and progressive electrical designs, which contribute to positioning PCE as a market leading partner in automation.
Responsibilities:
The following list is an indication of the responsibilities of the role, which the post holder will be expected to undertake. The list is not exhaustive and is intended as guidance only.
- Engage in regular meetings with the Project Management Team, Engineers, and Clients, to understand and execute the electrical requirements of automation projects.
- Collaborate with colleagues to produce electrical layouts for automated machinery and associated components.
- Produce electrical designs that are compliant with and conform to, all relevant Codes of Practice, Company, and Industry Standards.
- Remain compliant with all relevant legislation, regulations, and company procedures.
- Ensure that designs eliminate any hazards which may give rise to risks, reducing risks from any remaining hazards.
- Remain compliant with design assurance and audit processes.
- Apply a continuous improvement mindset to the improvement of existing designs.
- From approved designs, produce Electrical Parts Lists/Bill of Materials, for all electrical and pneumatic aspects of a project.
- Provide support to the Sales team, by preparing technical information for quotations, generate design costings and assist in costing for production work.
- Provide technical support during the build, testing and commissioning project phases.
- Review and improve existing designs, created by the Design Team.
- Adhere to all procedures in the updating and filing of documentation.
Candidate Requirements:
The following list is an indication of the skills that the successful candidate will possess, in fulfilment of the position.
- Degree level or relevant vocational training/recognised apprenticeship in electrical and/or mechanical discipline.
- Conversant in the use of AutoCAD and highly skilled with EPlan software.
- Proven electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical experience within the automation industry.
- Ability to follow electrical and pneumatic schematic diagrams and drawings.
- Comprehensive knowledge of diagnostics, test, and repair of electronic/electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
- Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and applicable regulations and guidelines.
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability.
- The ability to work on your own initiative from an outline brief.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
General advantageous requirements:
- Programming experience of (Mitsubishi, B&R, Festo and Allen Bradley) PLC’s/HMIs.
- In depth knowledge of Motion Control and 6 Axis Robot systems.
- Knowledge of script-based programming would be an advantage.
