Overall Job Purpose
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented IT Systems Engineer to support the daily operations of our IT division. This role reports to the IT Infrastructure Manager and involves assisting in the maintenance, monitoring and optimisation of network systems, servers and cloud platforms. The ideal candidate will work closely with the IT Infrastructure Manager and the business to ensure the stability, security and efficiency of all IT systems across the business while providing technical support for infrastructure related issues.
This role will have line management responsibility of the ICT Operator where you will provide mentorship and development support ensuring effective day-to-day IT operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Support & Maintenance
- Assist in the installation, configuration and maintenance of network hardware, servers and infrastructure.
- Monitor system performance, ensuring uptime and availability of IT services.
- Perform routine system checks, backups and patch management.
- Network & Systems Monitoring
- Liaise with our Security Operations Centre (SOC) to ensure smooth running of our solutions and alert any problems to management.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software and network issues; escalating complex problems to the IT Infrastructure Manager when necessary.
- User Support & Service Delivery
- Provide technical support to end-users ensuring timely resolution of IT issues.
- Deploy and configure IT solutions for end-users.
- Troubleshoot and resolve end-user issues related to infrastructure, networks and system access.
- Security & Compliance Assistance
- Support the implementation of security protocols, including firewalls, anti-virus software and encryption.
- Assist in regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and data protection regulations (GDPR).
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate documentation of IT systems, configurations and procedures.
- Generate reports on system performance, incidents and infrastructure status for management review.
- Project Support
- Collaborate on IT infrastructure projects, including system upgrades, migrations and cloud integrations.
- Assist in the rollout of new technologies ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
- People Management
- Responsible for managing the ICT Operator - providing coaching, development and performance management.
- Delegate tasks effectively ensuring IT Support and Service delivery run smoothly.
- Encourage continuous learning and best practice adoption within the IT team.
Requirements
Technical Skills & Experience
Ideal candidate should have 2-3 years experience in the following:
- Server Management - strong working knowledge of Windows server administration and support.
- Cloud Identity - experience with Azure Active Directory (Entra ID)
- Virtualisation - skilled in VMware or similar virtualisation technologies.
- Networking - good understanding of networking principles and technologies (subnets, VLANs and routing)
- Network Security - knowledgeable in firewall and VPN configuration and management.
- Productivity Suites - preferably experience with Microsoft 365 primarily and Google Workspace.
- Database - a good understanding of database technologies (Microsoft SQL in particular) and experience administering them.
- Cybersecurity Awareness - strong understanding of security fundamentals and risk mitigation.
- Cloud Solutions - familiar with Azure cloud services.
- Mobile Device Management - Experienced with MDM solutions, ideally with Intune or similar MDM solutions.

- Attention to detail - strong ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Communication skills - able to explain technical concepts to non-technical users and stakeholders, clearly and concisely.
