seeking a motivated Research & Development Technician to join their team based in Fareham.
What will I be doing as a Junior Buyer?
Working alongside the procurement team, you will cultivate relationships with tier two suppliers while ensuring the efficient and cost-effective procurement of essential materials. Plus, you’ll have the chance to enhance your professional journey by pursuing the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) qualification, propelling your skills and career forward in the world of procurement.
Key responsibilities:
- Supplier Management: Assist in managing and developing relationships with tier two suppliers, ensuring that procurement requirements are met with high quality, cost efficiency, and on-time delivery.
- Purchase Order Processing: Create and manage purchase orders for tier two suppliers, ensuring accuracy in terms of quantities, specifications, and delivery timelines.
- Supplier Communication: Maintain regular communication with tier two suppliers to address queries, resolve issues, and ensure seamless order fulfilment.
- Inventory and Stock Monitoring: Monitor stock levels and collaborate with internal teams to avoid material shortages, ensuring timely procurement to meet production needs.
- Cost Control: Support efforts to negotiate competitive pricing and favourable terms with tier two suppliers, contributing to cost-saving initiatives.
- Supplier Performance Monitoring: Assist in evaluating supplier performance through key metrics such as delivery times, quality of goods, and response rates, and support continuous improvement actions.
- Data Management: Maintain accurate procurement records, including purchase orders, delivery schedules, and supplier contracts.
- Collaboration with Internal Teams: Work closely with various departments to ensure alignment in procurement processes and resolve issues promptly.
- CIPS Development: Participate in study support for the CIPS qualification, applying learnings to enhance job performance and contribute to professional growth.
- Process Improvement: Contribute to identifying and implementing improvements within procurement processes to drive efficiencies and streamline operations.
Requirements
The ideal candidate should have strong attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and in a team. This fast-paced role requires multitasking skills, a proactive approach, and problem-solving abilities. Interpersonal skills are a must have for maintaining relationships with suppliers.
- A degree in Supply Chain Management, Business or related field is desirable.
- 1-2 years of experience in a procurement, purchasing or supply chain role.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with procurement systems or ERP software (e.g., SAP, Oracle) is beneficial.
- Basic analytical skills and attention to detail, with a desire to learn and grow in procurement.
