We are a growing property investment and management company operating across the residential and commercial lettings sector. With a diverse portfolio of assets, we are expanding our operations and seeking a Financial Controller to lead and develop our finance function.

This is a hands-on role for an ambitious, systems-focused finance professional who can build an efficient finance team while ensuring robust financial controls. The successful candidate will be a key figure in streamlining processes, implementing best-in-class financial systems, and driving financial strategy.

Key Responsibilities

✅ Financial Leadership & Strategy

  • Oversee the financial management of a multi-entity property portfolio, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
  • Work closely with senior management to provide financial insights and reporting for decision-making.
  • Implement robust financial controls and streamline financial processes to support business growth.

✅ Systems & Process Optimisation

  • Own and optimise Xero as the primary accounting system, ensuring smooth integration with other financial and property management software.
  • Implement automation tools to improve reporting, reconciliations, and cash flow forecasting.
  • Develop KPI dashboards and real-time financial reporting for management visibility.

✅ Team Development & Management

  • Build and manage a finance team, including purchase ledger and sales ledger juniors.
  • Provide leadership, training, and mentoring to ensure the team operates at maximum efficiency.
  • Develop best practices in financial reporting, compliance, and reconciliations.

✅ Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, cash flow forecasts, and financial reports.
  • Ensure accurate and timely VAT returns, tax filings, and compliance with HMRC regulations.
  • Oversee tenant and supplier payments, rent reconciliations, and credit control processes.
  • Liaise with external accountants and auditors to ensure financial compliance and smooth year-end processes.

✅ Transactional Finance & Controls

  • Manage purchase and sales ledgers, ensuring correct allocations and timely invoicing.
  • Ensure rents, service charges, and supplier payments are processed efficiently.
  • Oversee bank reconciliations and cash flow management.

✅ Collaboration with Internal Teams & External Partners

  • Work closely with the operations and lettings teams to ensure financial processes align with business operations.
  • Support the lettings team with tenant account reconciliations, arrears management, and deposit handling.
  • Liaise with external accountants, tax advisors, and auditors to ensure financial compliance and optimal tax planning.

What We’re Looking For

✔ Qualified or Part-Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).

✔ Strong systems experience, particularly Xero (essential).

✔ Previous experience in property management, lettings, or real estate finance is highly desirable.

✔ Experience in team leadership and ability to recruit and develop junior finance staff.

✔ A self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, growing business.

✔ Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

✔ Strong understanding of financial controls, tax, and regulatory compliance.

✔ Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external accountants.
