Job Summary
AFS Earthmoving & Aggregates are a growing and busy Specialist Earthworks Contractor based in Uttoxeter and we are looking for a Trainee Commercial Assistant/ Quantity Surveyor to join our Contracting Division, to support our construction projects gaining practical experience and develop skills in cost management and project control.

• Assist the pre-construction team in the submission of PQQs, tenders and quotations.
• Ensure financial details for projects are properly received from the pre-construction team.
• To manage and update project commercials identifying changes, opportunities and threats in addition to reporting and taking the appropriate action.
• To work closely with the Contract Manager and Site Managers to ensure project progress is in line with requirements and all measurable elements are recorded and that all works fall within the commercial scope.
• To assist with the management of Project Variations ensuring contractual processes are followed and instructions received.
• To assist with the payment application process.
• Assisting with cost estimations and budgeting for construction projects.
• Preparing tender documents and supporting contract negotiations.
• Monitoring project costs and identifying potential cost savings.
• Liaising with clients, subcontractors and other stakeholders.
• Learning about various construction techniques and technologies.
• Producing detailed reports and presentations.

Responsibilities :

• Support the contract and commercial team with day-to-day tasks.
• Assist with the preparation of cost plans and budgets.
• Contribute to the accurate measurements of works.
• Support the evaluation of tenders and contracts.
• Assist in the preparation of variations and final accounts.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation.

Requirements:

• A strong interest in construction, earthworks, commercial management and quantity surveying.
• Excellent numeracy and analytical skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• A proactive and positive attitude.
