Estimator/ Quantity Surveyor

Evans Construction & Civil Engineering Ltd are looking for an Estimator/ Quantity Surveyor to join a growing team, covering a range of Highways, Water Industry and Building projects through Shropshire and surrounding areas.

Evans Construction are a main contractor and sub-contractor, working with a number of Clients across Shropshire, Powys, Chester and Cheshire West and Telford and Wrekin.

The Role

This role is ideal for an experienced professional looking for career progression or students in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Quantity Surveying who want to gain practical experience while completing their studies.

This is a full time position within the company, the successful applicant will be self motivated and able to take full responsibility for preparation of tenders based on bill of quantities, schedule of works or plan and specification, negotiate final accounts, handle variations and documentation during the construction stage.

The role is based out of our offices in Oswestry with visits to site as required.

Projects we typically work on include a variety of highways and water industry projects covering, as well as building works, primarily social housing covering repairs and maintenance and void refurbishments.

Projects vary in size from £1k - approx. £500k.

Day-to-day tasks will include:

Working alongside other members of the team, candidates would be expected to:

  • Tendering & Estimation:
  • Prepare tenders based on bills of quantities, schedules of work, or from doing take-offs from plans and specification.
  • Use estimating software to build up a bid price.
  • Conduct take-offs and produce robust bills of quantities.
  • Procurement & Contract Management:
  • Obtain and assess quotes from material suppliers and sub-contractors.
  • Ensure all proposed contracts, terms, and conditions are reviewed.
  • Handle variations, final accounts, and cost negotiations with clients and subcontractors.
  • Project Collaboration & Documentation:
  • Working closely with Contracts Managers.
  • Administer tender documents and compile submissions in the required format.
  • Ensure all documentation is accurate, organized, and up to date.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience within estimating roles and exposure to a range of civil engineering projects.
  • Degree (or working towards) in relevant subjects - Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Quantity Surveying. (Those qualified by experience only are also encouraged to apply).
  • Full Driving License.

The role would also be suitable for students looking to gain experience while completing their studies.
