Job Title: Event Day Assistant
Location: The Marigold, 187 Brookvale Road, Birmingham, B6 7AJ
Contract Type: Flexible / Self Employed Contract (Seasonal Job - the contract length is not fixed)
Shift Hours: Typically 6 to 8 hours per shift
Hourly rate: National Minimum Wage
Days: Weekdays and weekends, including bank holidays and other school term holidays
Timings: Shift Based*
The Marigold is a premium wedding venue in an easily accessible location within the heart of Birmingham. They are looking for several Event Day Assistants to join the Event Day team for the upcoming wedding season.
The Event Day Assistant team will work alongside the Event Coordinator to help with the running of events and ensure a perfect wedding is carried out, so being friendly, sociable, and great at communicating will be crucial to making sure everyone feels welcome and well taken care of.
Previous experience is not essential; however, you must be willing to learn and enthusiastic about providing excellent service.
- Typical shift timings:
9am to 4pm / 5pm (daytime events)
4pm / 5pm to 11:30pm (evening events)
9:30am to 6pm (all day events)
Requirements:
- Guest Interaction: Maintain a friendly and approachable demeanour, providing excellent customer service - very important.
- Smart Dress Code: Adhere to the venue’s uniform guidelines. You will be responsible for purchasing the uniform.
- Equipment Responsibility: Wear provided badge, earpiece, and walkie talkie, ensuring they remain undamaged.
- Language Proficiency: Demonstrate good communication skills in English.
- Attention to Detail: Exhibit keen attention to detail in all tasks.
- Initiative and Quick Thinking: Display the ability to use initiative and think quickly on your feet.
- Physical Stamina: Be prepared for extended periods of standing throughout your shift.
- Teamwork: Work collaboratively with other staff members, fostering a positive working relationship.
- Adherence to Health and Safety: Comply with all health and safety regulations.
Duties include:
- Providing excellent customer service to maintain The Marigold’s reputation.
- Attending to guests throughout the event and ensuring their needs are met.
- Arriving early to set up the venue before the wedding begins.
- Following instructions from the Event Coordinator, Floor Supervisor, or Venue Manager.
- Ensuring the venue is clean and ready for guest arrival.
- Assisting with table settings, including napkin folding and placing menu cards and favours.
- Setting up reception glasses and preparing the tea & coffee station if needed.
- Serving tea & coffee to guests as required.
- Preparing snacks and drinks for the bridal room.
- Attending to the needs of the bride, groom, and their immediate family.
- Greeting and directing guests as they arrive at the entrance doors.
- Assisting the bridal party with their grand entrances.
- Reporting any scattered confetti or other debris to the cleaner and assisting with clean up.
- Inspecting washrooms and informing the cleaner of any issues.
- Cutting and distributing the wedding cake if required.
Other information:
- Shift availability may vary due to event demand, and a rota system will be used to allocate shifts.
- Not all requests for additional shifts can be accommodated.
- Employees must adhere to the uniform policy.
- No prior experience is necessary, but customer-facing experience is beneficial.
- Good communication skills and courteous behaviour towards colleagues and guests are essential.
- The venue is conveniently located near Birmingham City Centre with accessible public transport, but evening shifts may end late.
- You will be self-employed, so you will be responsible for declaring your own earnings to the HMRC
