Tax and Legal Technology Team
We are a team of 300+ technologists providing technology enablement services and solutions across the Tax and Legal business. This business has 2,500 tax & legal professionals covering multiple disciplines. We serve many thousands of clients and private individuals by providing a modern, market-leading suite of technology solutions that provide an efficient digital experience from routine to complex tax advice depending on client’s situation.
Tax is highlighted frequently as an industry where generative AI will have a significant impact on how services are provided. You will be working as a team at the forefront of navigating that change and redefining the way in which tax is determined in the UK and globally, making sure people and companies pay the right amount of tax with the minimum amount of effort.
The team is made up of Product Owners, Business Analysts, multi-disciplinary Engineering teams (approximate 150 Software, QA and Cloud Operations engineers) and IT Service delivery professionals working on a large portfolio of systems used to improve productivity and solve key business problems across Tax & Legal. We also build cutting edge web portals for clients to interact with KPMG, maximising collaboration and ensuring seamless delivery of information to our clients.
The Role
As a Product Owner within our Tax capability, you will lead the development of industry leading technology solutions. You will act as the conduit between stakeholders and the development team, using SAFe principles to help define and prioritise product backlog items in-line with business goals to maximise value delivered. You will also mentor and develop the technical skills of junior product owners and BAs, fostering a collaborative and innovative team culture.
This role is based in Birmingham and is hybrid (2 days a week in the Birmingham office).
Whilst there is no expectation of existing knowledge of tax, we would expect you to develop a degree of domain knowledge over time.
You Will Have:
- Demonstrable experience as a Product Owner with a track record of successfully developing and launching technology products.
- Analytical mindset with strong critical thinking skills, and a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in agile and scaled agile methodologies and experience working across multiple scrum projects.
- Excellent grasp of product management principles, user research methods, requirements engineering and stakeholder management.
- Outstanding communication skills, confident in collaborating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Enthusiasm for delivering excellent products and user experiences.
- Experience working with web applications, implementing technologies across shared services and integrating AI capabilities.
In This Role, You Will:
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to understand their business goals, scope and deliverables, and contribute to the overarching product vision and roadmap.
- Capture complex business requirements and translate them into clear, concise and actionable user stories.
- Own the product backlog assuring it is prioritised in line with business goals and ready to drive development.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration with Software Engineering and Quality Assurance teams verifying requirements are understood, feasible and accurately implemented.
- Regularly communicate with key stakeholders during implementation phase to maintain alignment on deliverables and timelines
- Control the product development budget and manage budget requests for future product initiatives.
- Promote the utilisation of new products and features to accelerate the benefit realisation and return on investment.
- Create and maintain product documentation, such as user guides and release notes.
