We are looking for a Cost Engineer to join our Capital Programmes team at AWE Nuclear Security Technologies.

Package: From £38,140, negotiable dependant on experience

Location: RG7 4PR , located between Reading and Basingstoke

AWE operates a 9-day working fortnight. We will consider flexible working requests so that your work may fit in with your lifestyle. Just let us know your preferred working pattern on your application. Attendance is generally two days on site but this depends on operational requirements so some flexibility is required along with occasional travel to contractor offices.

As a Cost Engineer, you will play a crucial role in Project Controls, focusing on all aspects of cost management within one of our Programme Controls Teams. You will be responsible for establishing, developing, and maintaining timely and accurate cost data and reports, including forecasts, performance analysis, earned value, cash flows, and monthly reports on the Actual Cost of Work Performed (ACWP). Your efforts will support the project in minimising the Estimate At Completion (EAC) for the Programme, ensuring the best value.

A typical day for a Cost Engineer could look like this:

  • Producing and maintaining accurate cost and cash forecasts, aligning with the Cost Assessment of all changes, and accurately representing approved changes within the Programme budgets.
  • Assisting in the development of cost systems and reports to ensure the successful delivery of Project objectives.
  • Maintaining all cost data for the Programme within the financial control system.
  • Providing timely and focused cost reporting for the Programme to key stakeholders.
  • Accurately assessing the EAC for the Programme.
  • Ensuring that earned value techniques and indices are correctly implemented in the Programme.
  • Comparing and analysing trends within the Programme and identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Reviewing, accepting, and integrating cost estimates and forecasts provided by Tier 1 Contractors and suppliers.
  • Adhering to governance and Cost standards and procedures.
  • Ensuring all Project documents, especially Sensitive Nuclear Information, are correctly marked and protected in accordance with AWE policies and procedures.

We would like you to demonstrate or have experience in:

  • Professional qualifications up to HNC.
  • Success in a Project Controls environment or a similar Cost role on a major construction project.
  • Proficiency with technology such as Cost tools, Excel, and IT.
  • Building rapport and creating great relationships.
  • Motivating and building teams.

We recognise that great people don’t always ‘tick every box’. That’s why we focus on your potential, your fit with our values, your transferable skills as well as your experience. Even if you don’t meet every point below, but you feel that this role and AWE are a great fit for you, please go ahead and apply, we’d love to receive your application.

Some reasons we think you’ll love it here:

  • 9-day working fortnight – meaning you get every other Friday off work.
  • 270 hours holiday
  • Market leading contributory pension scheme (we will pay between 9% and 13% of your pensionable pay depending on your contributions)
  • A truly meaningful role where your hard work impacts on our mission to keep the nation safe and secure.
