Internal Opportunity Only: Are you ready to step into a leadership role that has a direct impact on student success? Bitterne Park School is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to fill the position of Head of Year (Maternity Cover). This is a fantastic opportunity for existing staff to utilise their experience and skills to support our students during this important time!

As the Head of Year, you will be responsible for leading your year group and ensuring that all students are supported in their academic and personal development. Your leadership will contribute to fostering a positive and nurturing school environment.

The Role

  • Develop and implement strategies to promote student engagement and well-being.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to students, ensuring their academic progress and addressing their personal challenges.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external agencies to provide holistic support for each student.
  • Oversee the pastoral systems in place, adapting and enhancing them to meet the needs of the year group.
  • Monitor student behaviour and academic performance, intervening as necessary to support improvement.

We are looking for a candidate who is not only an exemplary educator but also a compassionate leader who understands the complexities of supporting young people. This role requires excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to leadership.

Requirements

  • Current position within Bitterne Park School and a strong understanding of the school’s ethos.
  • Experience in a pastoral role, ideally with previous leadership responsibility.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with students and stakeholders.
  • Dedication to promoting positive student outcomes and addressing individual needs.
  • Relevant qualifications and experience in education or related fields.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching certification.
