JOB SUMMARY

The Warehouse Distribution Manager plays an integral role in ensuring the smooth operation of the warehouse, overseeing the receipt, storage, and dispatch of goods. This position involves coordinating the daily activities of warehouse personnel, managing inventory levels, and ensuring the accuracy of shipments and inventory. By maintaining a clear line of communication between warehouse staff and management, the Warehouse Distribution Manager ensures that operations run efficiently and effectively. Their responsibilities also include implementing safety and organisational standards to create a productive environment. Through their leadership, they support the overall objectives of the warehouse, contributing to the timely and efficient delivery of goods to customers.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Oversee and coordinate the daily warehousing activities, including the receipt, storage, and dispatch of goods to ensure efficiency and timeliness.
  • Implement and enforce safety and health guidelines in the warehouse to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Manage inventory control processes to minimize loss and maximize accuracy in stock levels through regular audits and updates to the inventory management system.
  • Train and mentor warehouse staff on operational procedures and best practices, ensuring a skilled and knowledgeable workforce.
  • Schedule and assign tasks to warehouse personnel to meet operational requirements, adjusting as necessary to accommodate changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Liaise with other departments, suppliers, and transport companies to coordinate logistics and resolve any arising issues promptly.
  • Prepare and review warehouse reports on performance metrics, including shipping times, order accuracy, and productivity, to identify areas for improvement.
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of warehouse equipment and machinery to ensure operational efficiency and reduce downtime.

Key Tasks:

Inventory Management: Tracking and adjusting stock levels to align with demand while avoiding excess requires attention to detail and the ability to predict future needs using historical data. Coordination with procurement and sales teams is crucial to ensure inventory accuracy and minimise losses due to spoilage or obsolescence.

Forklift Operation: Manoeuvring through narrow warehouse aisles and safely stacking goods at various heights requires precision and spatial awareness. Operating different types of forklifts, including counterbalance and reach trucks, is necessary for maintaining the smooth flow of operations and inventory integrity.

Quality Control: Inspecting inventory to ensure it meets established standards before shipment involves identifying defects and implementing corrective actions. A systematic approach to monitoring and documenting the integrity of goods is necessary to ensure customer satisfaction and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Team Leadership: Coordinating and motivating a diverse group of employees to ensure efficient operation and timely completion of tasks involves clear communication and task delegation based on individual strengths. Creating a collaborative environment that encourages problem-solving and innovation is also part of this role.

Logistics Coordination: Orchestrating the movement of goods from suppliers to the warehouse and then to production, distribution centres or direct customers involves anticipating and mitigating logistical challenges. It is important to maintain inventory accuracy, manage shipping schedules, and optimise storage solutions while minimizing costs and adhering to delivery timelines.

Safety Compliance: Implementing and monitoring protocols to prevent workplace accidents and injuries involves conducting regular safety audits and training staff on proper equipment use. Keeping updated on the latest industry standards and legal requirements is necessary to maintain a secure and efficient working environment.

  • Carry out appropriate training when required by your Manager
  • Conduct other duties within the operational department as required

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Skills :

  • Experience of working in the Food Manufacturing Industry
  • Understanding of Production KPI’s
  • Experience with implementation of corrective action programs
  • Product or industry-specific experience
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and databases
  • Knowledge of tools, concepts and methodologies or food industry
  • Relevant warehouse knowledge for the position
  • Understanding and capability to complete, analyse and present all required operational paperwork, reports, as per area of work
  • Maintaining and monitoring Health & Safety in the workplace
  • Maintaining and monitoring of hygiene standards across all operational areas
  • Demonstrate a “Can do” attitude
  • Ability to give and follow instructions and procedures
  • Knowledge of food safety standards
  • Fluent knowledge and ability to operate all machinery in one operation area
