Job Summary:

The Junior Engineer in Food Production will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and efficiency of electrical and mechanical systems and equipment within our food manufacturing environment. This role involves maintaining compliance with health and safety standards, optimizing production processes, and supporting the engineering team through effective collaboration. The Engineer will also focus on implementing continuous improvement initiatives and support with facilities maintenance. You will also be expected to fulfil any reasonable requests made by members of the Management or Leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

Health and Safety:

• Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations especially, related to electrical systems and equipment within the food manufacturing facility.
• Conduct risk assessments and safety audits to identify and address potential hazards associated with electrical installations and operations.
• Provide training and guidance to staff on the safe operation of electrical equipment and machinery.

Food Safety and Quality:

• Collaborate with production and quality assurance teams to ensure that electrical systems do not compromise food safety.
• Monitor and maintain equipment used in the processing and packaging of food to prevent contamination and ensure adherence to food safety standards.
• Participate in investigations related to food safety incidents, providing technical expertise to identify root causes and solutions. Supporting with prevention and solutions

Operational:

• Design, implement, and maintain electrical systems and equipment for the food production process to ensure optimal efficiency and reliability.
• Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues that may arise during production, minimizing downtime and impact on operations.
• Work closely with production teams to analyse processes and recommend enhancements that improve overall production capacity and efficiency.

People Management & Teamwork:

• Collaborate with production staff, technical departments, and other departments to foster effective communication and teamwork.
• Assist in training staff and production personnel on the proper use and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment and machinery.
• Participate in cross-functional teams to support projects and initiatives that enhance operational performance.

Continuous Improvement:

• Identify opportunities for process improvements related to electrical and mechanical systems and contribute to the development of innovative solutions.
• Implement and oversee continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing efficiency, reducing energy consumption, and enhancing equipment performance.
• Stay informed about advancements in electrical engineering and technology to propose upgrades and improvements to existing systems.

Qualifications

Essential:

• Electrical Qualifications to NVQ or ONC Level 3 in electrical installations.
• Experience in engineering within a food production or manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations pertaining to electrical installations.
• Awareness of basic facility maintenance and understanding of mechanical operations.

Desirable:

• Experience with automation and control systems in food production.
• Familiarity with industry standards and practices related to food safety.
• Welding experience highly desired
• Experience in BRCGs accredited businesses
• Electrical qualifications (preferably 18th Edition IEE Regulations or equivalent).
