Role overview:
A Junior Mechanical Design Engineer at PCE Automation is responsible for Product Data Management (PDM), Bills of Material, as well as modelling and adding bespoke and brought in manufactured parts to the PDM database. Working with the PCE MRP system for the procurement of new parts.
Responsibilities:
- The following list is an indication of roles and responsibilities you will be expected to undertake within our organisation. The list is not exhaustive and intended as guidance only.
- Individual tasks vary depending on the type of technical support you are providing, but in general, you’ll need to:
- Work and collaborate within a multi-discipline team.
- Apply your technical knowledge to work with challenging mechanical requirements.
- Contact suppliers or manufactures to obtain relevant models and drawings of the required parts.
- Process Models into usable data for the specific component.
- Create 3D models and associated 2D drawings within Solidworks, running the data through the PDM workflow ready to release to supply chain.
- Implement pre-defined naming conventions for all parts added.
- Produce comprehensive bill of materials and parts lists, for all mechanical aspects of a project.
- Engage in regular meetings with the Project Team, Suppliers and Clients.
- Remain compliant with all relevant legislation, regulations, and company procedures.
- Provide technical support during the build, testing and commissioning project phases.
- Manage your time efficiently to deliver design in line with the project schedules.
- Apply a continuous improvement mindset in all aspects of your work.
Candidate Requirements:
- The following list is an indication of the skills that the successful candidate will possess, in fulfilment of the position:
- Have an interest in Mechanical Design within the automation industry.
- A minimum of an HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline.
- Knowledge of 3D CAD (Ideally Solidworks).
- Knowledge of Solidworks, PDM or similar is desirable.
- Knowledge of a wide range of manufacturing techniques.
- Detail-oriented, methodical, and accurate, with excellent levels of concentration.
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to balance priorities of multiple projects.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Have a passion for engineering, with a drive to innovate and contribute to positioning PCE as a market leading partner in automation.
