Contract Type: Fixed term 12 month contract

Hours: 8 hour per week

Salary: £14.560 per annum pro-rata, £35 per hour

The role of the Nurse Lead requires a self-motivated, disciplined individual to take ownership of the clinical leadership of the nursing services within the of the Access Hub, supporting the Clinical Lead and working as a key member of the Local Management Team. The role is based at St Charles Centre for Health and Wellbeing and Violet Melchett Clinic.

To be responsible for the clinical management of the practice nursing team, consisting of nurses and HCAs. Working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, the post holder will ensure nursing services are delivered effectively to the population.

The lead nurse will be responsible for a monitoring of clinical areas such as infection prevention and control, drug and vaccination monitoring, CQC compliance, chairing Nursing Team meetings and smear quality.

The lead nurse will also be involved in the development of clinical policies, audits, leading on appraisals for nursing staff and complaint management.

The following are the core responsibilities of the lead practice nurse. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

  • Regular clinics in the extended access service undertaking smears, vaccinations and wound care
  • Willingness to undertake ARTP accreditation or already accredited
  • Oversee drug and vaccination stock at both extended access sites ensuring processes followed
  • Responsible for fridge temperature audit at both sites
  • Induction of new nursing staff, HCAs, and other roles as per service needs
  • Develop and review audit protocols and process for the practice, effectively utilising the audit cycle and to oversee those within the team.
  • Support all members of the nursing team, providing guidance when necessary, conducting appraisals and training needs analyses as required
  • Continually review clinical practices, responding to national policies and initiatives where appropriate
  • Participate in the review of significant and near-miss events applying a structured approach (SER)
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Co-ordinate the nursing team rota, ensuring sufficient staff are available to meet patient needs Develop, review and implement nursing protocols
  • Support members of the nursing and HCA team
  • Lead the planning and implementation of changes within the nursing team, enhancing the provision of services to patients
  • Support the leadership team with the reviewing and implementation of practice policies and protocols, ensuring conformance to extant legislation

  • Assess own performance and take accountability for own actions, either directly or under supervision. ∙ Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own and team activities and making suggestions on ways to improve and enhance the team’s performance.
  • Work effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patient’s needs.
  • Effectively manage own time, workload and resources.

On arrival at the sites, all new personnel are to complete an induction programme.

The post-holder should recognize the importance of effective communication within the team and will strive to:

  • Communicate effectively with other team members
  • Communicate effectively with patients and carers
  • Recognise people’s needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly ∙ Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, e.g.NWL ICB, PHE,), claims, complaints, PPG etc.
  • Ensure good written and verbal communications to all levels of the organisation including the ability to communicate complex and sensitive information.

The post-holder will:

  • Apply practice policies, standards and guidance.
  • Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect own work.
  • Participate in audit where appropriate.

All staff are to recognise the significance of collaborative working. Teamwork is essential in multidisciplinary environments. Effective communication is also essential and all staff must ensure they communicate in a manner which enables the sharing of information in an appropriate manner.

This role will be subject to change and the post-holder will be expected to show flexibility and adaptability in all areas.

Qualifications

  • Strong patient care skills and experience in a primary care setting
  • In-depth knowledge of human anatomy and physiology
  • NMC
  • Desirable: ARTP Accredited
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead and mentor nursing staff
  • Proficient in electronic health record (EHR) systems
  • Relevant nursing certifications and licensure as required
  • Commitment to providing high-quality patient care and improving health outcomes

Job Types: Part-time, Zero hours contract

Pay: £35.00 per hour
