Role overview:
As a BI Analyst / Developer at Tes, you will be an instrumental part of our data transformation journey. We’re changing the way that Tes utilises its data to empower our business to positively impact the education sector. You’ll work closely with our wider data team, as well as with a wide range of our business stakeholders to truly understand the requirements for our data products. This role is in the Data & Insights department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with our Sales, Marketing, Product & Finance teams to understand current pain points in Insights provision, acting as a champion for a “data first” approach.
  • Create, maintain and maximise relationships within the organisation - we employ a hybrid working model to achieve this – you’ll be based in one of the Tes UK offices for 3+ days a week.
  • Define and maintain the pipelines that collect, clean, merge and aggregate raw data from a variety of sources into tables ready for consumption.
  • Explore, manipulate, and visualise data to extract valuable insights and communicate them with purpose to stakeholders.
  • Analyse and identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in data.
  • Work with key stakeholders across the business to gather, refine and clarify requirements, and consistently apply an innovative approach.
  • Solve business challenges as they arrive and be able to use data to influence decision making in the organisation.
  • Understand and adapt to a wide range of datasets, a key part of the organisation’s history and growth plans involves business acquisition which brings challenges in data centralisation.

What will you need to succeed?

  • Strong SQL skills (with a few years of applied experience).
  • Experience with at least one BI / visualisation tool (e.g. Looker / Power BI / Tableau etc.)
  • Knowledge of ETL/ELT tools (e.g. dbt / Fivetran etc.)
  • An understanding of Data Governance principles, and the importance of maintaining data quality and providing accurate data and sound insights.
  • An agile mindset – striving for realising value through MVPs and taking an iterative approach from there.
  • A number of examples that demonstrate your ability to use your data and influencing skills to positively impact an organisation.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • The ability to speak business and tech, seamlessly translating between technical requirements and the needs of our stakeholders.
  • A curious mind and a desire to always learn more.

It would be beneficial experience & knowledge of:

  • The AWS stack, particularly Redshift.
  • Python or R
  • Working with senior stakeholders to influence change.
  • Prior experience of data transformation projects.
