Software Tester
at KPV LAB EdinburghAbout the job
Role & Requirements
We are looking for a talented and proactive Software Tester to help us improve the quality of our next-gen, 3D-data visualisation application which is in early stages of its development. We use a variety of web technologies and our development process often has similarities with games or graphics applications.
You will join our agile team and take ownership of manually testing our product - so should have established previous experience of manual and exploratory testing of web-based applications. You will collaborate closely with the team to understand the functionality, refine acceptance criteria for user journeys and develop our first test plans. You will perform regular exploratory testing of new and existing features, to identify problems and drive improvements to our user experience. You will work independently, creating test plans/scenarios and establishing best practices to integrate your work into our existing processes.
Part of your role will be helping to triage and prioritise work to address defects and make improvements.
We are also expanding our automated testing - so if you have relevant experience and/or a motivation for this, do tell us! Tools such as Playwright may be relevant and there will be an opportunity to take ownership of this. We’re a team that likes to learn new skills, and to allow people the time to grow.
We maintain an agile process and regular release cycle, while improving and formalising our test processes across the board. We’d like you to guide us and help to achieve that!
Work & Benefits
- This is a full-time role at 35 hours per week with flexible working hours
- We work in our Edinburgh office on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and from home on Wednesdays and Fridays
- We trust people to work to a schedule that best suits them as long as there is appropriate overlap with the rest of the team
- 34 holidays per year (including 9 public holidays, all of which can be taken at any time)
- NEST pension scheme with 5% company contributions
- A future opportunity to share in the success of the company
- MacBook Pro (with external 4k screen in the office)
- Individual annual budget for professional development like conference trips or training courses
- Time and support for preparing and presenting at local meetups
- A visit to the head office in Munich
- Cycle to Work scheme
- Secure bike storage and on site showers
- Fruit and snacks plus a stocked fridge for social drinks
The team has a diverse mix of skills with backgrounds in literature, medicine, maths, physics and computer science. As life-long learners we have a broad range of interests beyond our own specialisms.
We aim to foster an intellectually stimulating environment with an inclusive culture. We put emphasis on the craft of our work and sharing of knowledge within the team to ensure that we can all grow and improve together. We would love for you to contribute to that.
Interview Process
We start with a 45 minute introduction call to learn more about your experience, interests and background and share more details about our company and the role.
Our second stage is a homework exercise to create a test plan for an online product. When you return the homework to us, we’ll schedule a 60 minute in person interview with you to talk through your work and explore more questions. This is also an opportunity to meet our team and see our office space.
The last stage is a 30 minute conversation and demo with our director. After this, we will be able to make a hiring decision.
We believe the interview process should be a positive experience regardless of the outcome.
