Make a Real Impact: Consultant Inclusive Design at RNIB

Join RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind People) and play a vital role in creating a more inclusive and accessible world for people with sight loss. We’re seeking a passionate and skilled Consultant to join our Inclusive Design practice

About the role:

As a Consultant you will play a key role in delivering high-quality consultancy services to external organisations, helping them to create more accessible and inclusive environments, physical and digital products and services with optimal user-experiences.

Working with our Managers and Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) and the wider Associate Consultant group, you will support client engagements, conduct research, analyse data, and develop recommendations that drive meaningful change for people with disabilities including those with sight-loss.

What you will do:

  • Project Management: Plan, execute, and deliver projects and workstreams effectively, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
  • Research & Analysis: Conduct thorough research on accessibility and inclusivity best practices, standards, and emerging trends. Analyse data and information to identify opportunities for improvement in clients’ environments, products and services.
  • Consulting Expertise: Provide expert advice and guidance to clients, helping them to understand and implement accessibility and inclusivity best practices.
  • User Testing lead on and carry out technical and specialist assessments and user testing with end users. Analyse data and information to identify opportunities for improvement in client products and services.
  • Report Writing: Prepare clear, concise, and impactful reports that summarise findings, recommendations, and action plans for clients.
  • Client Engagement: Manage client workstreams independently, ensuring the delivery of high-quality consultancy services and building strong relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Client Development: Support the team in proposal writing, client pitches, and thought leadership in general contributing the growth and success of the practice.
  • Mentorship: Support and guide Associate Consultants, providing feedback and fostering their professional development.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Inclusive Design Function’s knowledge base, sharing insights and expertise with colleagues and clients.
  • Innovation: Stay informed about emerging trends and technologies, identifying opportunities to enhance the consultancy’s offerings and impact.

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., design, human-computer interaction, psychology, social sciences) or equivalent experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse stakeholders.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, with the ability to synthesise data and produce concise and impactful insight
  • Ability to operate autonomously producing work to a high-standard within time-sensitive projects
  • Passion for accessibility and inclusivity, with a commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of people with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and guidelines across one or more of Product Design, Navigation and Wayfinding, Physical Environment
  • Understanding of inclusive design principles and practices.

Travel will be required as part of the role and may involve occasional overnight stays. Hybrid workers must be commutable to either the London or Peterborough Office.
