Classroom Disability Support Worker

Empowering lives through compassion, connection, and the courage to dream

Do you believe in the power of small steps that lead to life-changing strides? Are you inspired by the idea of unlocking potential in children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)? If you’ve worked in care or a related field and are looking to transfer your skills into a classroom environment, this is your opportunity to make a profound impact.

At Sense Education, we’re seeking caring, resilient, and kind individuals to join us as Classroom Disability Support Workers. In this role, you’ll guide students on a journey of growth, self-discovery, and independence. Your presence will help shape not only their day-to-day lives but their futures, instilling confidence and courage they’ll carry with them long after the school day ends.

The Role:

As a Classroom Disability Support Worker, you’ll become a cornerstone of support for children with SEND, helping them to overcome challenges, embrace their strengths, and find joy in learning. You will:

  • - Lead sensory and emotional regulation activities to nurture emotional wellbeing and focus.
  • - Build life skills that foster independence and prepare students for the future.
  • - Support classroom learning as well as outdoor explorations and off-site visits that spark curiosity and adventure.
  • - Provide assistance during snack and meal times to ensure comfort and care.
  • - Facilitate personal care when required, with dignity and compassion.
  • - Enable students to communicate through alternative methods, such as AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) and Makaton, creating meaningful connections. Training will be provided to equip you with these invaluable skills.

You’ll work in small class sizes, surrounded by a team of dedicated professionals, all striving towards the shared goal of empowering children to reach their fullest potential.

The Ideal Person:

  • We are looking for someone who embodies kindness and patience–a person who finds joy in helping others thrive. Whether through personal or professional experience, you should be familiar with supporting individuals with SEND. Specifically, you’ll:
  • - Have a relevant degree, or qualifications in care, health and social care, or as a teaching assistant.
  • - Bring experience in working with SEND individuals, either professionally or personally.
  • - Display warmth, adaptability, and a willingness to learn.
  • - Be open to exploring and mastering alternative communication methods such as AAC and Makaton (prior knowledge beneficial but training provided).

If you can offer understanding, creativity, and determination, this role will reward you with unforgettable moments of connection and success.

The School:

This is a place where students are celebrated for who they are. The school focuses on fostering independence, emotional regulation, and life skills within an inclusive and supportive environment. With a commitment to small class sizes, each child receives tailored guidance that helps them flourish academically, socially, and emotionally.

Hours:

This role offers flexibility to suit your schedule. Working hours are 8.30am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday. Full-time and part-time applications are welcome, allowing you to choose the number of days you work, up to five days per week.

The Benefits:

  • - Flexible working hours to fit your lifestyle.
  • - Competitive pay.
  • - Long-term positions with the potential for permanent roles.
  • - Training and professional development opportunities, including AAC and Makaton.

Step into a role where compassion becomes transformation, and support becomes empowerment. Apply today and join us in helping children with SEND pave their way to brighter futures filled with confidence, independence, and joy.
