We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Level 3 qualified Teaching Assistant to support students aged 5 to 13 with a range of special educational needs at a specialist school in Wakefield. This is a term-time only position, Monday to Friday, with the potential for a permanent contract for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with local and national learning strategies, such as literacy and numeracy, as directed by the teacher.
  • Prepare and organize classroom resources and equipment, assisting students in using them effectively.
  • Supervise students during non-lesson times, including before and after school, as well as during lunch breaks.
  • Provide assistance to students facing emotional, social, and behavioural challenges.
  • Offer practical support to students with identified physical needs.
  • Ensure the safety and active participation of students in learning activities through supervision and support.
  • Build positive relationships with students and parents, fostering open communication.
  • Promote inclusion and acceptance of all students within the school community.

Requirements:

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
  • Experience working with children, especially those with special educational needs.
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting students.
  • Strong understanding of child development and various special educational needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt to and respond to the diverse needs of the school.
  • Commitment to integrating the school’s ethos into daily practices.
