Technical Manager

About Us
Altus Science is a globally recognised leader in the production of Certified Reference Materials (CRMs), primarily serving the pharmaceutical industry. We are an SME (Small and Medium-sized Enterprise) that is rapidly expanding on a global scale, and we take great pride in our family-oriented culture where individuals are treated with respect and valued for their contributions. As an SME, we understand the importance of delivering on time and ensuring that our technical projects are executed efficiently. We are seeking a dynamic and highly experienced Technical Manager to join our talented team, where you will help drive innovation in analytical chemistry, support advancements in manufacturing, and contribute to the success of a company that places a premium on both excellence and human-centred values.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Technical Innovation: Drive the development of Certified Reference Materials (CRMs) and improve existing products to ensure superior performance, long-term stability, and alignment with industry standards. This includes enhancing and automating current production processes.
  • Quality Compliance: Ensure all manufacturing activities comply with ISO 17025, ISO 17034, and our internal Quality Management System, maintaining our commitment to precision and excellence.
  • Strategic Collaboration: Work closely with both internal teams and external partners to advance the understanding of life science reference materials and meet our research objectives.
  • Project Management: Oversee R&D projects from concept to execution, managing a team of skilled professionals and coordinating cross-departmental efforts.
  • Industry Engagement: Represent Altus Science at technical forums, and contribute to the development of white papers in collaboration with the Sales, Marketing, and key customers.
  • Training and Development: Lead and deliver instrument training both on-site and via video, ensuring that clients maximize the potential of our products while promoting best practices.

The role offers significant growth opportunities for a driven Technical Leader. We have an opportunity to expand the range of CRMs and associated products. The successful candidate will help identify, develop and implement the most suitable products.

Following training and familiarity with our business, this role will offer opportunities to help grow teams in other global locations. This will include occasional international travel. The suitable candidate will work with a dynamic team of leaders who have significant autonomy for their departments.

Requirements

  • Technical Expertise: Extensive knowledge of analytical chemistry with a proven track record in the production of Certified Reference Materials.
  • Educational Background: A Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline with at least 15 years of experience, or a PhD with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Proven project management experience, particularly in a technical or R&D setting.
  • Regulatory Understanding: Familiarity with cGMP standards and regulations in FDA and EU-regulated industries.
  • Personal Attributes:
  • Strategic Thinker: Ability to contribute to the direction of technical initiatives and company growth.
  • Deadline-Driven: Comfortable working to tight deadlines with minimal supervision and clearly defined briefs.
  • Visionary: Possesses personal vision and a commitment to achieving excellence.
  • High Integrity & Moral Code: Operates with strong personal ethics and integrity.
  • Team Leadership: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire, mentor, and develop teams while fostering a culture of collaboration. An empathetic leadership fostering autonomy is desirable.
  • Passion for Growth: Excited about the opportunity to grow within a globally recognized organization.
  • Problem-Solving: Able to tackle complex challenges with practical solutions, based on data-driven analysis and analytical rigor.
  • SME Experience: We are particularly interested in candidates who can express why they believe working in an SME environment aligns with their career goals and personal values.
