The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and executing activities to meet product realisation targets while ensuring compliance with customer specifications. You will lead the development of feasible, cost-effective, and reliable mechanical designs from concept through to production, while also driving innovation and efficiency within the engineering team.

Mechanical Design Engineer Salary and Benefits

Mechanical Design Engineer Key Responsibilities

• To provide strong leadership, mentoring, and guidance to engineers and technicians, ensuring high team performance and professional development.
• Efficient mechanical designs, transforming initial concept sketches into fully detailed and validated engineering solutions.
• Produce high-quality fabrication drawings and maintain accurate documentation for all project designs.
• Prepare comprehensive BOMs (Bills of Materials) for each project, ensuring all necessary materials.
• Work closely with CNC profile cutters, folding machine operators, bending and welding specialists to ensure seamless manufacturing processes.
• To design, operate, and refine lifting equipment to enhance operational efficiency and safety.
• To conduct detailed hand calculations to validate design integrity.
• Manage engineering projects using SolidWorks/Inventor (2008-2018), ensuring all aspects of the design chain, including estimation, cost analysis, manufacturing, procurement, and client feedback, are integrated.
• Ensure all technical activities adhere to ISO9001 Compliance & Quality Assurance - and ISO9001 standards for quality assurance and regulatory compliance.
• Write, review, check, and authorise technical documentation, ensuring accuracy and consistency before external distribution.
• Conduct thorough Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) reviews to identify and mitigate potential design risks and enhance reliability.
• Lead design review meetings to assess project feasibility and participate in contract review meetings with clients to ensure the details and specifications meet the expectations.
• Organising and allocating engineering tasks efficiently, ensuring optimal use of resources and adherence to project timelines.
• Working closely with the quality assurance team to address technical issues, improve processes, and maintain high manufacturing standards.

Mechanical Design Engineer Essential Experience & Qualifications:

• Qualified in Mechanical Engineering - Must possess relevant qualifications in mechanical engineering (NVQ Level 3, HNC, HND, or Degree level)
• Proven experience working in a manufacturing or engineering environment ideally within a bespoke mechanical engineering setting.
• Ability to create precise technical drawings and schematics to guide manufacturing processes.
• Verification & Quality Control Expertise.
• Continuous Improvement Mindset.
