About the job
Introduction
At Hanne & Co, we are committed to delivering exceptional legal services with a personal touch. Our Family Department is known for its compassionate and client-focused approach, assisting individuals in navigating complex family law matters with care and expertise. We are seeking a dedicated and detail-orientated Legal Assistant to join our Modern Family team.
This role is ideal for someone looking to transition from an administrative or secretarial background, or for an experienced career paralegal with an interest in modern family law. While this role provides excellent exposure, it is not intended as a stepping stone to qualification as a solicitor. Instead, we are looking for someone who is committed longer term to a specialist legal support role.
The primary role of the legal assistant is to support their fee earners and contribute to the overall efficiency of the department. This will include but will not be limited to the main responsibilities given below:
- Assist fee earners with case management, legal research and drafting correspondence
- Prepare and file legal documents, including court forms and statements
- Manage client communications, acting as a first point of contact for enquiries
- Maintain accurate client records and case files, ensuring confidentiality and compliance
- Coordinate meetings, court dates and fee earner diaries
- Support fee earners in preparing for hearings and client consultations
- Build relationships with internal and external parties
- Handle billing, invoicing and general office administration as required
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in a legal, administrative or secretarial role
- Strong interest or understanding in family law
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High level of organisation and attention to detail
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced legal environment
- Excellent client care skills, able to demonstrate empathy and professionalism
Desirable but Not Essential
- Legal qualifications (gained or working up to) such as a Legal Secretary Diploma, CILEX Certificate or Paralegal qualification
- Knowledge of court procedures and family law processes
- Experience in the process of onboarding clients in a law firm, in particular: preparing engagement/client care letters, understanding of anti-money laundering regulations, budgeting and seeking money on account
