We’re Hiring! Due to a substantial increase in service contracts, breakdown calls, equipment hire and new equipment installations, we require additional field service engineers.

Based in Trentham, Stoke - on - Trent and part of the Hassell Engineering Company, we employ circa 50 employees’ company wide, with circa a dozen colleagues within the material handling and recycling equipment sales, hire, service and parts side of the business. The role reports to: Service Manager

Role Purpose:

To provide high-quality field service support to customers operating heavy plant and recycling equipment within the waste, recycling and scrap metal processing sectors. This includes routine servicing, breakdowns, repairs and maintenance in addition to support new or hire equipment installation. The role also interacts with our sales team, identifying new opportunities to enhance customer support, supply new or hire equipment and generating additional revenue through service contracts, spare parts, and equipment upgrades.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations on-site including the carrying out of point of work risk assessments.
  • Carry out all duties to an exceptionally high standard of professionalism, continually promoting E H Hassell & Sons brand standards
  • Attend customer sites to perform servicing, fault diagnosis and repairs to a wide range of large material handlers
  • Carry out mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical work, ensuring downtime is kept to a minimum.
  • Support installation of new equipment as well as equipment on hire
  • Work collaboratively with the service and sales team by identifying potential sales leads or equipment upgrade opportunities and feeding these back for follow-up.
  • Maintain clear and professional communication with customers and service manager, keeping them informed of work progress and recommendations for additional work if required to ensure customers equipment is running at optimal performance.
  • Accurately complete service reports, job cards, and parts requisitions in a timely manner.
  • Maintain company-provided van, tools, and stock inventory to a high standard.
  • Participate in the call-out rota and support emergency breakdown situations as required
  • Promote service packages, extended warranties, parts, and maintenance contracts whenever possible to customers during site visits.

Who we are looking for:

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Experience in servicing and repairing heavy plant equipment, ideally in the waste, recycling, construction, or quarrying sectors.
  • Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical fault-finding ability.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Resilient, self - motivated and able to work effectively on your own.
  • Proactive thinker turning customers problems into solutions
  • Ability to work when required away from home and during outside of normal office hours.
  • Commercial awareness and confidence in promoting additional services and products.

Desirable:

  • NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds level 3 (or equivalent) in Plant Maintenance or Mechanical Engineering or appropriate field.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools and telematics systems.
  • Knowledge of industry regulations (e.g. LOLER, PUWER, WISH).
  • CSCS card or similar industry-recognised certification.
