Who are we looking for:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and professional Infrastructure Project Engineer to join our growing Project Delivery Team. You must have at least some previous experience of implementing IT infrastructure solutions from the ground up.
We are looking for individuals who have both the hunger and passion to develop their career. With a positive and proactive mindset, you must have a hands-on style and approach in respect to your work ethic. Attention to detail is critical, as is pride in your work.
We are looking for someone who can quickly and confidently take technical ownership of their own projects, work well with the wider team, and support/mentor junior colleagues.
Job Role:
As an Infrastructure Project Engineer, you will take the technical lead on a diverse range of exciting IT infrastructure projects. You will be responsible for design, configuration, migration, and testing of the latest technologies. Our solutions include a mixture of private/public cloud, on-premises servers, networking, wireless and firewalls/web filtering.
You will work alongside OfficeXpress Project Managers and Junior Infrastructure Project Engineers (2nd Line) to ensure projects are implemented to the highest possible standard and within time constraints. You will also work with a variety of 3rd party vendors and suppliers.
You will be responsible for:
- Project kick-off meetings with the customers - Face-to-Face and via MS Teams.
- Writing Detailed Design documents (DD) and User Acceptance Documents (UAT).
- Pre-staging of hardware.
- Build, configuration, and testing.
- Migration of services, data, and applications.
- Customer handover and knowledge transfer.
- User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and sign-off.
- System Configuration documentation.
Occasionally you will be required to provide 3rd line support or to act as a point of escalation for our service desk.
The role is mix of remote working (2 days per week), office-based work and on customer sites. The role requires the applicant to hold a clean, full driver’s license and you will need access to your own car. Travel and visiting different customer sites is a regular part of the job.
Basic salary is £ 35,000 plus a Car Allowance. In addition, we provide holidays of 25 days plus bank holidays as well as a pension scheme in which as an employer we contribute 5%.
Essential Skills (Technical):
You will be senior member of the Infrastructure Services team and will be responsible for project delivery in a fast-paced environment. As such, we’ll need you to have at least some proven implementation experience in most of the following:
- Windows Server eco-system and the associated roles/features - ideally Windows 2016 or later.
- Cloud solutions - Azure IaaS, Office 365 / Microsoft 365, Intune, Google Workspace.
- Enterprise server hardware, ideally Dell or HP, including firmware and BIOS updates + RAID configuration.
- Virtualisation technologies, ideally Azure Stack, Hyper-V and Failover Clusters.
- System Management, remote control, inventory, updates through SCCM, WSUS and WDS/MDT.
- Azure AD and Active Directory including DNS and Group Policy.
- NTFS, Network Shares, DFS.
- Remote Desktop Gateway, Direct Access and Always-on-VPN.
- Anti-virus solutions - ideally Sophos.
- Networking including IP addressing, routing and VLANs.
- Enterprise switching/networking including command line - ideally HP Aruba.
- Wi-Fi hardware - ideally HP Aruba.
- UTM firewall/web filter appliances - ideally Watchguard.
- Veeam Backup & Replication
Industry recognised certifications from Microsoft e.g. MCSA and MCSE are highly desirable.
Knowledge of applications and services from the Education sector would also be highly desirable e.g. MIS.
Essential Skills (Soft):
We will also need you to possess and demonstrate the following attributes:

- Ability to converse with various stake holders at different levels.
- Time management skills
- Ability to prioritise tasks and delegate where necessary.
