Charney Manor, a thirteenth Century Conference and Retreat centre in Charney Bassett is delighted to announce that we will be recruiting for a Cook to join our Catering team.
Working with a small, motivated, and customer focused team, this Chef/Cook role offers variety. You will need to have a keen eye for detail, an organised approach, and a willingness to exceed our guest expectations. Often operating on the front line, you will need to be committed to consistently delivering high standards. This role comes with a mix of duties and responsibilities; no day will be the same. We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible team player who shares our ambition to produce and deliver consistent high standards of food quality and service.

Salary: £25,000 - £30,000
Contract: Permanent, Full time
Hours: 37.5 hours a week
Location: Charney Manor, Oxfordshire
Charney Manor is a Conference and Retreat Centre, set in the idyllic and peaceful Oxfordshire countryside. We’re looking for an experienced Chef/Cook to share our ambition to produce and deliver consistent high standards of food quality and service.
We cater for Retreats with two/three meal services per day for an average of 25 covers.
Our menu consists of freshly prepared, classic British dishes with opportunities to introduce influences from other parts of the world.
This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week over a five-day period, on a rota basis, to include evenings, weekends, and some bank holidays.
Our ideal candidate will be:
- A real “foodie” with a passion and enthusiasm for fresh food and great service.
- Good team player who is hardworking and can prioritise and multitask.
- Have strong leadership skills, be naturally outgoing and energetic with an ability to train and inspire.
- Self-motivated with excellent communication skills and a “can do” flexible attitude.
- Have a proven track record, with at least 2 years’ experience within a similar role
- Have the confidence and experience to work independently, manage shifts and happy to take on the responsibility for overseeing all operational aspects of the Kitchen and staff .
You would be responsible for the following:
- Prepare seasonal, traditional and specialty style menus in accordance with our client’s requirements.
- Confident in catering for a wide range of specific dietary requirements i.e vegan, gluten free & dairy free etc and fully conversant with Food Allergen Labeling.
- Responsibility for stock control, stock rotation and food orders on shift
- Aiming to achieve fresh food offer of the highest quality and ensure the team runs the kitchen as efficiently as when on duty.

This is ideally a full-time role but open to discussion about part time options. Due to the location of Charney Manor a driving licence or transport will be required.
