Senior Acoustic Consultant
at MACH GroupAbout the job
We value passion and encourage original thinking.
A career at MACH offers you the opportunity to work for an acoustics and building physics consultancy that puts sustainability first.
Our acoustics team work to enable the end user to enjoy the ultimate in audio and spatial experience, offering both clarity of sound and freedom from unwanted noise. Our services are expanding and improving all the time, having started as a pure independent acoustic consultancy practice we have developed a team that undertakes thermal and daylight assessments, enabling MACH to take a holistic approach for better sustainable building design. By considering all elements of building physics equally, we overcome the clashes between acoustics, thermal comfort and low carbon building design to create stunningly beautiful, green buildings.
We continually look at our working methods and are always keen to explore new ideas and ways of working, creating better processes and better efficiency allowing us to spend more time on the fun side of design and problem solving for our clients. Currently, we are looking at how our team works within Revit and BIM to optimise our work processes and enhance accuracy and communication with design teams. We have also developed products such as the Honeycomb Attenuator and Baffled Windows. We have created plugins for word to help write reports quicker and clearer. We work across all sectors of acoustics, including schools, hospitals, residential, offices and performing arts buildings, such as the Bristol Beacon.
Job Role Description
We are looking for a new team member with experience in working across a number of different projects and sectors. This role will bring you into our team where you will lead on projects and support other team members on our larger and more complex projects. At MACH we encourage you to grow into a role that interests you, thus we will tailor this job around your skills and desired levels of responsibility. The role will be focused on the acoustic design of buildings and so a good understanding of industry standards and guidance is essential, along with an attention to detail and being able to technically review building designs.
We have a reputation for really helping our clients and getting them to understand why certain solutions are needed and others may not work. Therefore, a good technical knowledge of acoustics and skills in clear communication and being able to explain acoustics to a non-technical audience will be required.
Having a true understanding of what designs work and which don’t, we value past experience of getting on site, understanding construction and of course sound insulation testing. Any knowledge and experience of this will be desirable. In addition to building acoustics, we also undertake a considerable amount of environmental work, and so skills in this area are also desirable but not essential.
Modelling is a core part of our work so an interest and experience in CATT, Odeon, INSUL, Cadna/A, Revit and other software modelling tools are desirable.
