Library & Outreach Assistant

We have just recently refurbished our Resident Hub and Wembley Library, and we will be refurbishing Kilburn Library in 2025. Brent Libraries deliver customer focused culture, learning and information services in one of the most diverse boroughs in London. All our libraries have self-service technology, a wide-ranging book stock, regular reading and learning activities and a year-round programme of tailored events. We also offer e-books, e-audio and online resources available 24/7. We also offer Home Library and Outreach service for who find it hard to get to the library.

The Post

Successful applicants will be working as part of vibrant team helping to deliver customer focused services ranging from library enquiries, delivering events for children and adults, running activities, working in the community through library outreach, promoting the library service; as well as working to maintain and promote our physical book collections & online digital collections.

This is a valuable opportunity to join an exciting forward-looking library service, which serves as an important cornerstone in delivering public service within the borough of Brent.

Within the role of Library & Outreach Assistant, there are opportunities for training and personal development and to progress within the library service.

This is an exciting time to join the Council as we continue to modernise and develop our library estate and outreach services and ensure our Libraries, Cultural and Heritage offer exceed our residents’ expectations.

Please note our Library and Outreach assistants work regular late nights and regular weekend working.

The Person

We are looking for candidates with strong interpersonal skills, enthusiasm for working in the library sector, the ability to promote the library service and provide excellent customer service to a wide range of diverse library users.

A passion for books and reading is important for us as encouraging more people to read is a key mission for us.

Experience in customer service is desirable and candidates should be confident in using ICT. Services for children and families are a cornerstone of our offer and we would especially welcome candidates who have an enthusiasm for working with these groups.

The postholder will be participating in library service promotional activities and events, undertaking activities with library users of all ages, as directed.

You will be playing a key role in delivering a locality-based outreach programme to promote the library beyond the current user groups.
