With our Cyber Security Analyst Industrial Placements, you’ll have the chance to explore different workstreams tailored to your skills and interests. There’s also the potential to rotate across functions during your placement, giving you broad exposure to the world of cyber security.

Role Area 1: Cyber Operations

Here you’ll be at the heart of our cyber security command centres, tackling exciting tasks such as:

  • Handling cyber incidents and gathering cyber intelligence.
  • Conducting real-time monitoring of HMRC’s environment.
  • Leveraging internal security data to implement solutions and identifying potential threats across multiple data sources.

Role Area 2: Identity Verification & Authentication (IDVA)

You’ll be joining the team that protects our Identity and Access Management services. You’ll contribute to high-profile projects that detect and prevent impersonation and account hijacking.

Key responsibilities Include:

  • Using Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools like Splunk to analyse customer interaction data.
  • Identifying suspicious activity and collaborating with teams across HMRC to investigate and intervene.

Person specification

We are looking for industrial placement students with:

  • Strong team working skills
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Has attention to detail.
  • Effectively communicate using verbal, written and presentation skills to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Interest and awareness of the importance of Cyber Security.
  • Ability to handle and analyse data from external sources
  • Strong communicator, with excellent technical writing and dealing with external partners and interfaces.

Essential Criteria

  • Undergraduate student with a mandatory or optional 9-12 month Industrial Placement course requirement
  • You must be in the penultimate year of your degree course
  • Studying full time at university, towards a degree in one of the following: Cyber Security, IT, Computer Science, Design/Web Design or Forensic-related degree

If you are successful, your placement will start once you have passed all pre employment checks. the Placement will be for a minimum of 9 months. We cannot accept placements any earlier than this.
