Job description

As the Deputy Production Manager, you will be responsible for supporting day-to-day operations at the Belfast Filling Station and driving continuous improvement initiatives. You will play a key role in optimizing safety, productivity, quality, and efficiency, ensuring the seamless operation of the 13,000-tonne annual LPG production that services 60% of demand across the island of Ireland.

Requirements

Main Responsibilities:

Production & Operations Management:

  • Oversee all cylinder production activities across two of our sites in Belfast.
  • Directly manage the Production Supervisor and support them to manage the production team.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate and improve existing processes, workflows, and systems.
  • Ensure that daily/weekly production targets are met while maintaining safety and quality standards.
  • Develop and review safe systems of work, ensuring all production decisions comply with site safety rules.
  • Assist with budget management.
  • Act as key member of the emergency response team.

People & Performance Management:

  • Lead, coach, and develop team members to maximize performance and engagement.
  • Maintain an open, two-way communication culture within site operations.
  • Conduct performance reviews, training, and skills development to ensure staff reach their full potential.
  • Establish and update Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), identifying trends and taking corrective actions.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Develop and maintain relevant sections of the Safety Management System, including, work instructions, risk assessments, procedures, and training provisions.
  • Act as CARE facilitator for the site and support QHSE initiatives.
  • Conduct safety walks, audits, and inspections, ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations.
  • Investigate and report all accidents, near misses, and dangerous occurrences in line with company procedures.

Continuous Improvement & Process Optimization:

  • Identify, analyse, and implement process improvement initiatives.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to develop and execute action plans for process redesign, automation, and waste reduction.
  • Support the rollout of continuous improvement methodologies across the site.
  • Utilize data analysis tools (Excel, Minitab, etc.) to track performance metrics and inform decision-making.

Stakeholder & Contractor Management:

  • Coordinate with Calor Direct, Cylinder Distribution, and Pressure Test Services to align production and distribution plans.
  • Work closely with the maintenance team to plan production downtime and facilitate shutdowns.
  • Manage contractors, including Permit to Work (PTW), reviewing Risk Assessment & Method Statements (RAMS), and site induction.
  • Act as deputy to the Production Manager for all relevant duties.

Candidate Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • 3rd level education desirable (preferably in engineering, operations management, or industrial engineering).
  • Proven experience in production/manufacturing operations management.
  • Strong background in process improvement and continuous improvement methodologies.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect and analyse data.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Hands-on experience in safety management, quality control, and compliance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft tools, and other statistical systems.
  • Adaptability and a continuous learning mindset to stay ahead of industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with teams on various projects at different locations.
