It’s an incredibly exciting time for Bristol Airport, and we are looking for a Lead Electrical Engineer to join us on this exciting journey.
The Lead Electrical Engineer will support the sustainable development of the Airport’s technical infrastructure through developing and managing electrical systems and standards, quality assuring engineering and development projects, ensuring compliance with installation and maintenance standards. They’ll develop, own and implement the Airport’s electrical services strategy, reducing the need for external consultancy support.
This role would suit an experienced Electrical Engineer who is qualified to a degree level in Engineering and is either chartered or working towards their chartership. They’ll have demonstrable experience with High Voltage Electrical Installations and exceptional communications skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Contribute, support and review technical electrical submissions across multiple projects ensuring electrical elements of designs are fit for purpose, comply with current standards and have considered long term operating costs and maintenance.
- Lead and develop a team of Electrical SME’s and apprentices, coaching, mentoring, empoweing and performance managing, creating a culture of accountability, engagement and high performance.
- Provide technical expertise for electrical disciplines in ongoing and future development and asset replacement projects. This includes HV/LV distribution systems, Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS), baggage handling systems, lighting and emergency lighting, lifts and escalators, and technical specification development.
- Collaborate with National Grid to ensure electrical supplies are maintained at all times and to work closely with them to ensure future electrical capacity is available to support the airports sustainable growth and carbon reduction plans.
- Develop and maintain the airport’s electrical load capacity model and HV network models, ensuring that future electrical capacity is considered and develop comprehensive plans for future load increases.
- Oversee the creation and implementation of best practice electrical engineering policies, practices, and processes, ensuring they reflect our strategic aims and Company values, and comply with all relevant legislation.
- Maintain knowledge of technological advances and regulatory changes, headlining potential impact and benefits to stakeholders and recommending solutions to ensure compliance, optimise performance and ROI.
- Working closely with the Senior Electrical Engineer, define and drive the airport’s electrical services strategy to ensure alignment with business objectives, reducing reliance on external consultancy support.
- Develop, update, and implement technical specifications and drawings for all electrical aspects of infrastructure, ensuring new equipment or activities are fully supported by appropriate qualification documentation and maintained appropriately.
- Oversee and review ongoing site-based work as a senior authorised engineer to ensure standards are being met, and systems are being installed to design. Ensure that maintenance is considered throughout the construction process, promptly identifying and addressing any deficiencies.
- Support the development of business cases and prepare supporting paperwork to gain financial approval for project work, whilst reviewing and evaluating the whole life costs and aligning with our Asset Management model.
- Lead technical investigations into electrical equipment failures, identifying the root cause, developing and implementing a long-term solution to prevent recurrence.
- Deliver infrastructure electrical projects across the business ensuring; Health, Safety and compliance are a top priority; projects achieve current industry best practices; project costs are fully recorded; and operational teams fully briefed as work progresses.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
- Electrical Engineer qualified to a minimum of degree level in Engineering.
- Chartered Electrical Engineer or working towards chartership.
- Broad and diverse experience in electrical engineering gained post-qualification.
- Demonstrable experience with High Voltage Electrical Installations, preferably as an SAP (Senior Authorised Person).
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks effectively, prioritise workloads, and communicate progress clearly to project managers and stakeholders.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with a proven ability to build strong relationships and work collaboratively across functions to achieve business objectives.
- Excellent practical knowledge of health & safety, with demonstrable experience of developing and implementing procedures and best practice.
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills, with advanced proficiency in MS Office applications and a solid understanding of ICT tools.
- Proven organisational, planning and prioritisation skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and objectives at any one time.
- Flexibility to provide occasional 24/7 support for exceptional events or critical projects.
Desirable
- Knowledge of airport environment systems, including Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL), baggage systems, HVAC, and related infrastructure.
- Experience of working with construction activities/sites, including technical sign off and commissioning.
- Knowledge and experience of continuous improvement initiatives such as Kaizen, TPM, Six Sigma or 5S.
