  • About The Role

As the UK’s largest specialist provider of diagnostic and healthcare solutions, our Digital team at InHealth continues to grow, to support our expanding range of services. Our Digital team is second to none, and InHealth is proud to be a great place to work.

We’re looking for a Principal Integration Engineer to lead the design and development of robust clinical system integrations that directly enhance patient care and service efficiency.

This is more than just a technical role - you’ll be hands-on with Mirth Connect , scripting JavaScript transformations, ensuring HL7 and DICOM workflows run smoothly, and working closely with clinicians, solution architects, and operational teams. If you thrive on solving complex data challenges and want your work to truly make a difference in people 's lives, this role is for you.

You’ll join a driven team, dedicated to transforming healthcare through seamless digital solutions. As a senior member of the integration team, you will design, maintain, and enhance the integrations that connect multiple clinical systems, ensuring patient data is shared accurately and efficiently. You’ll work in a collaborative, supportive environment that values technical excellence, innovation, and continuous learning.

We are flexible on locations and happy for you to be based anywhere in the country. This is a remote role, with occasional travel.

What you will do:

  • Lead technical delivery of integrations using Mirth Connect, with a focus on HL7, DICOM, and emerging standards like FHIR.
  • Script, configure, and troubleshoot data flows across clinical systems to ensure accurate, secure, and timely information exchange.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams , translating high-level designs into operational interfaces.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex integration issues , optimising performance and maintaining high availability.
  • Champion compliance and governance with healthcare regulations, maintaining documentation and data integrity at all times.
  • Mentor and elevate the team , setting the standard for coding, testing and interface design, sharing knowledge on HL7, DICOM, JavaScript and Mirth Connect best practices.

About you:

  • Extensive Integration Engineering Background
  • * A proven history of configuring and optimising Mirth Connect channels, employing JavaScript for HL7, DICOM, and potentially FHIR transformations.

  • Familiarity with XML / JSON for message validation and data handling; experience with radiology systems (e.g. RIS/PACS) is a bonus.
  • Modern Engineering Practices
  • * Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g. JavaScript, Python), agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and version control (Git).

  • Experience with RESTful APIs is desirable, facilitating broader interoperability where needed.
  • High-Performance & Reliable Data Flows
  • * Expertise in scaling solutions for large DICOM images or high-volume HL7 traffic, minimising disruption to clinical services.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • * A track record of working effectively with clinical, architectural, and operational teams, integrating diverse insights into your designs.

  • Mentorship & Coaching
  • * Demonstrable aptitude for guiding other engineers, offering best-practice code reviews and strategic advice on data mappings and interface structure.

  • Security & Governance Awareness
  • * A solid understanding of healthcare data protection regulations, patient confidentiality standards, and how these impact system integrations.
